Hi,

As a parent with an autistic six year old girl, and a Mother who also suffers from Fibromyalgia( A pain condition that causes sleep disorders amoung other things..I can relate!

The reason I am writing to you is becuase I have my own central nervous system problems. It is NOT fun!!!! I have been on variuos medications for sleep including Neurontine (which did not work fo me, and actualy made me worse.) I have a friend who has her child on two medications, one to help her child fall asleep, and one for the side effects it causes.

I am not an expert, but can tell you that as an adult I have trouble with medications, I can't imagaine what a child must go through. Please be careful, and keep trying to find a doctor that works and LISTENS to you.(I am not against medications, but it can be very dangerous both for adults and children.) We are still trying to find the right people to help us too.

I can only send you prayers...keep looking... The one thing that I noticed about my daughteris that when ever she has a bout of the "Night Owl Syndrome!" There is always something else going on with her. It might be something she ate, or a sensory issue that you may be over looking too. We found that after my daughter eats certain foods within a week she will start to get up during the night. Sometimes food issues, may not be noticed until a week before it starts. So, if you haven't already, my advise would be to start to take a journal. Start to look for alergents in her room. Are you using heavy cleaners? Did anything change that week as far as behavior? Or could she be getting ill. My daughter ALWAYS is up for hours about a week before she comes down with a virus. All of thses may play a part, there may not just be one thing, or one pill that does the trick.

Anyway, sorry I don't have the answer you may want, but I hope it help to say..I have circles under my eyes, and keep asking and praying for help. It will come to you,

Kriss

Re: Sleep Deprived

Neurontine modulates the levels of the neurotransmitter GABA in thebrain. it certainly has sleepiness as a side effect. It also has ahuge list of other Adverse effects and was not tested in children. Iam not opposed to trying it, I am saying be careful. It does have somerather unpleasant central nervous system adverse effects...Shirly>> Sandy,> > Ask about neurontin, it helps to keep them asleep not put them asleep.> Good luck. > > > > > Hello everyone, I have a nine year old girl who has major sleep issues.> > Her> > neurologist (Dr. Epstein at the Dan Marino Center) prescribedClonodine> > to help her sleep.
