Re: What's in Your Food Bag?

Bonnie, my commute is 45 minutes or more each day, and I like stuff

that I can snack on in the car also. I go through cycles. I've been

known to leave a box of cereal in the passenger seat, and snack on it

all the way to work, and all the way home. The problem is I eat way

too much of it way too fast that way. Ziploc bags would be smarter!

I live in the midwest, and right now it's chilly enough I can leave

cheese in the car. I sometimes buy the individual snack cheese and

grab a couple on my way out the door. I carry apples a lot, but

sometimes they don't appeal to me. lately I've also been drinking

water or tea with the flavored instant stuff that has fiber and

protein in them. They are pretty satisfying also. Crackers are also

good, I like the all bran crackers a lot.

Oh wow 3 hours a day?! That is awesome that you are planning your

meals ahead of time. When I worked as an assistant store manager for

Target (We had a starbucks and pizza hut inside!!) I was commuting

like that and I was so stressed I just compulsively ate junk food

24/7... Especially in the car!

If I had to do it again I would probably pack wheat thins and those

single serving cheeses. Since its winter and I live in the Northeast

U.S. I figure its okay to leave them in the car.

Also natures valley granola bars, pita and hummus, honey nut

cherrios, apple sauce...

I'm assuming you don't have a microwave in the car, right? So do you

just grab something from the basket, like the easy mac as you are

leaving the car and heading into work? I actually keep cans of soup

and zatarain's rice at my desk, along with either tuna or chicken so

I can eat that if I don't feel like walking to a dining room, or

getting out. Although, lately I've been on a major baked potato

kick. I know I could bake some at home and take them in, but one of

the dining rooms in another building has them every day. Of course,

it galls me to pay so much for something I could just bring from

home. Last week I got a grilled chicken breast and a baked potato

and it was more than $6. I couldn't believe it. Since gas has

gotten less expensive, I could drive to 's and get a baked

potato and chicken nuggets for under $3!

We commuted almost that long a time for about 10 years too. There was

so much traffic and freeway driving that we didn't have time or chance

to eat! I just jumped out of the car at night and started in

immediately on dinner. (I got to be a QUICK cook) -

Dried fruit and nuts in a ziploc bag (easy, keeps for weeks, and a

handful or two tides me over when I need it).

Hi !

I actually decided to take it in to work and leave it under my desk. I realized that if i am too busy to stop to eat when I am hungry, I probably can't walk out to my car either. I didn't even eat anything out of it today! It was just reassuring knowing it was down there if I needed it! It did attract some attention when I walked in this morning, but really who cares? They are gonna be wanting to eat out of my food basket when they are hungry, and wishing that they didn't make fun of it!

Thanks for sharing!
