Guest guest
Eileen, The first thing I made with it was the cheese bread out of BTVC, only I shredded the cheese real fine because I didn't have a food processor. Fair warning: my dachshunds think cheese bread is wonderful. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Are you sure you are ready for it? I waited 3 months before starting almond flour. Be careful! Guest guest
hey eileen- maybe you should wait. i kind of threw myself off course when i tried the almond flour too soon. i don't even count that time as part of the time i am on scd- so i was on it for like close to 2 months and i didnt do the intro long enough nor did i introduce things properly. i " restarted " and basically stayed on a modified intro for 2 months.. only after the 3rd did i introduce the almond flour and even then i really have to limit myself to a very small amount or like a treat every couple of days. keep it in mind.. i kind of have a matra- that i find tough to follow myself!! that if i wait now and am patient it will pay off in the long run and i will just get healthier sooner!! now if only i could keep that in my head when i dream at night- picture this.. i am eating chocolate totally pigging out- waking up in sweats- like a nightmare! so angry at myself for cheating. i realize it was a dream. i'm totally relieved but horrified, like " what the hell is wrong with me, what is that about " so after this a couple of times i looked it up and i read about this that junkies and recovering addicts go through this type of nightmare when it comes to drugs, alcohol and so on when they are quitting and sober- it's like a normal process. makes me wonder if i am " addicted " to non scd food? i always dreamed and fantasized about food all these years, had crazy cravings- but never nightmares of like binging and stuffing myself sick! i never really did any of those things.. i dont get it. jodi > > Are you sure you are ready for it? Guest guest
Hi Eileen - You might try the German Coffee Cake from the receipes on Pecanbread (http://www.pecanbread.com/recipes.html). It uses almond butter rather than almond flour, so I feel like it's easier on the system. It was one of the first baked goods I tried, and it has become a staple of my diet. Not to mention - it's delicious!! Note that I do not make or use the frosting (since it has chopped nuts and coconut, which are advanced) - just make the cake and eat it plain. I do, however, echo the concerns of the other list members who recommend going VERY slowly. It's hard - but after 7 months on SCD and occasional setbacks due to going too fast with new foods - I know it's worth it to wait. Good luck! Guest guest
Jodi - This struck such a chord for me! I remember the first few months having these kinds of dreams - and also others where I could never cook enough food to satisfy my hunger ... I felt hungry all the time. The dreams were so vivid and scary! I agree that it must be similar to what an addict goes through. I'm just amazing now, in only 7 months, how much more functional I've gotten in the kitchen and how I don't really even notice that I have to make everything I eat! It was sooooo overwhelming at first - sometimes I would even break down in tears. Now, it's just become part of my life and I feel so much better that it just reinforces how important it is. Sure, I miss the delectable chocolates, especially around holidays, but I just mix up some yummy strawberry frozen yogurt, make some honey caramels, and pig out on my own delicious SCD sweets! Guest guest
I'm not going to go there yet then - like I mentioned in in another response I'm back to basic and think I need to do that - I agree with healing first - just frustrating and scary with weight and people harassing about weight! those dreams sound freaky - I was a sweet/icecream junkie too - surprised i don't miss it - here and there - guess i don't feel good enough to miss it - LOL! thanks eileen 5 weeks - > > > > Are you sure you are ready for it?
