I deal with chronic constipation; have upper GI disorders that impact my digestive motility. I can't handle the usual SCD constipation protocols, or much of the other things that help with constipation. I can't tolerate fiber or fat, both of which help with motility. Now that I have my yeast levels under control I drink more juice per day than before, but I have to still dilute it significantly or my stomach and immune system object. So I can't count on extra vitamin C to help with my constipation issue.

I do take a daily dose of Miralax. It's now OTC. It's a stool softener, known as an osmotic laxative. It's safe to use over the long-term. I also take a dose of magnesium every other day, which also helps. I have tried repeatedly to stop using Miralax, but I just don't have enough peristalsis to help move things through without it.

Unfortunately, I still had to deal with episodes of more severe constipation during my first year on SCD despite taking Miralax and another motility med. (Zelnorm) at the time. I decided it was just part of the healing and detoxing. I kept (and still keep) water enemas on hand to help when the discomfort level gets too high after several days of no bowel movement. I still need to use a water enema once in a while, maybe once every 3 to 4 months, after I've tried a "new" food or eaten out at a restaurant and accidentally ingested an illegal my digestion can't cope with.
