Guest guest
I feel it's too early for that " gentle nutrition " . I read the chapter but I feel that I'm not able to practice " gentle nutrition " right now. I still have " good " and " bad " foods. I think that refined foods " shouldn't be eaten " because they're not nutritious and are just " empty calories " and make me fatter. I obviously still think that I don't have the right to eat anything " fattening " . Only thin people are allowed to do that. No, it's not the time for " gentle nutrition " right now. Regards s. Guest guest
I've been trying to eat intuitively even longer than you have, Arnie, but I feel the same way - I'm still not yet at a place where I can put all the ideas in this chapter to work. As soon as I saw the authors' Nutritional Countdown table and the Peace Symbol plate dividing technique, I think my jaw started clenching. I guess it's a throwback to my dieting/disordered eating days, where as soon as I would try to push myself in the direction of more nutritious eating, my Diet Rebel would get all fired up and try to pull me in precisely the opposite direction. At the moment, I still kind of have to wait until my instincts and appetite clearly say " enough stodge - I feel like something light and fresh such as salad or fruit " , rather than initiating that change in direction myself because I *should*. My favourite part of this chapter was the second-last section, " How to Keep the Pleasure in Healthy Eating " . I do want to head towards gentle nutrition, but really have to be careful to ensure that I *truly* enjoy those healthier foods I'm preparing, rather than just eating them because they're edible and I feel I should. As summer approaches, that ought to become easier, because I quite like salad and raw veggies, and of course summer fruits. (Tackling the vegie issue in winter was quite problematic; I developed some vegie soups that I quite liked, but I just had to try and avoid making myself thoroughly sick and tired of them.) Cheers Sig > I like that the authors place a lot of emphasis that this chapter is > not for people new to IE; that it is important to have a healthy > relationship with food first. ..... > So, I don't think I'm at a place yet where I should be putting a lot > of emphasis on this chapter yet. Thought you might find it interesting??? http://www.preventionisbest.com/site/saturatedfat.html Sorry wasn't able to find a pro one for " refined " foods. Guest guest
When I thought about it, all of my grandparents ate 'fatty' foods - eggs for breakfast, butter on toast, sausages etc. They all lived to around 90 years of age too. Yet my mom who ate the 'diet' way off and on (as we all are familiar with) died in her mid 50's from cancer. And my dad, who's nutrition was way out of wack died in his early 70's also from cancer. I seriously think that most of our current eating choices are so very out of sync with what our bodies need that we stress and cause ourselves illness instead. Thanks for the link to the article on saturated fats, its good to see more sanity in nutrition being found. Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I feel it's too early for that " gentle nutrition " .
