URGENT: Take action on BPA today!

Dear Joyce,

We need your help right now.

Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) have crafted a bipartisan compromise to include regulation of the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in food safety legislation that is close to passing the Senate.

This provision would ban BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups within six months, force FDA to finalize its safety assessment of BPA by December 2012 and protect states' rights to pass even stronger laws. Unfortunately, however, the American Chemistry Council has swooped in at the 11th hour to try and kill the agreement.

We need you to call your senator TODAY and tell him to support this amendment.

Please contact Senator McConnell today. We have included his phone number and some talking points below.

Thank you for making this important call today,Ken CookPresident, EWG Action Fund

Senator Mitch McConnellPhone number: 202-224-2541Talking points: Hi my name is ____ and I am one of your constituents, as well as a supporter of Environmental Working Group.

I am calling today because I want you, Senator McConnell, to support including the BPA compromise worked out by Senator Feinstein and Senator Enzi in the food safety legislation. This is a commonsense approach to regulating BPA that will go a long way to protecting the most vulnerable among us.

This compromise was worked out over the past six months in bipartisan negotiations, but the American Chemistry Council has come in at the last second to try to scuttle this deal. The industry is more interested in protecting its bottom lines than the public's health.

Please support the inclusion of this bipartisan agreement on BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups in S. 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010.

Thank you!
