Women Initiate the Majority of Divorces Having trouble viewing this email? Click here Monday, October 11, 2010 Featured Article Jo Rapini, MEd, LPCLove/Relationship Columnist Women Initiate the Majority of Divorces (HealthNewsDigest.com) - It all began with my horoscope on Thursday morning. This is what it said: "It's possible you could meet someone today, who will act as a kind of Pygmalion for you. You need to be surrounded and encouraged by people who believe in you, Jo, and it is good for you to have one or several people around to support you. If you do meet this kind of person, don't be a show off, and listen to what he or she has to say to you. It is for your own good." Featured Article Beauty/Skincare Columnist Restoring a Great Looking Neck (HealthNewsDigest.com) - The concept of a beautiful neck conjures up images of Nefertiti, Audrey Hepburn, and Iman. A beautiful neck has a graceful contour, good definition, and a balanced profile. It is the ideal balance of enough fat not to look skeletal, without any bulges or pockets of fat that spoil the desirable contour. A very thin neck will expose the muscles in the front of the neck, other irregularities and prominent glands. Featured Article D. ShawContributing Columnist Obstacles On The Road To Health Care Nirvana (HealthNewsDigest.com) - There was a fair amount of response to last week's "Dealing With Obesity" article. Some readers focused strictly on the obesity issue, while others commented on how this problem affects our efforts to reform health care. It's estimated that 1 in every 133 people is sensitive to gluten and the numbers are rising, especially among older adults. Eating foods with gluten results in chronic inflammation of the small intestine that impairs its ability to absorb nutrients. Wheat contains the most gluten, but other grains like barley, rye, and triticale contain some too and need to be avoided as well. Featured Article Joan PaganoFitness Columnist Can Strength Training Prevent Lymphedema? (HealthNewsDigest.com) - Traditionally, women have been advised against lifting weights and performing repetitive arm movements in order to prevent lymphedema, a possible side effect of breast cancer treatments. According to a recent study, however, strength training exercises can actually reduce the risk of developing this unwelcome complication, improve symptoms if they develop, and prepare women to return to their normal day-to-day activities. Featured Article Dr. GrantHolistic Health Columnist Should We Fear the Witch and Her Brew to Beat the Flu? (HealthNewsDigest.com) - Now don't be scared off by that word "witch." Its true definition is "Wise One." She was the natural healer and midwife for many centuries, using herbs and skills passed down through many generations to help peasant populations. She birthed the babies, assisted the dying, and helped heal the sick. The witches were often the only practitioners of medicine for entire villages. Many of their remedies are still used today. J. McCurdy, Founder/Publisher What a great weekend for those of us lucky enough to be in parts 0f the country to view the autumn leaves. I spent the long weekend in the Pocono mountains of eastern Pennsylvania where the leaves are at their peak of gold, reds and amber. A long drive down highway 409 is like a military wedding with crossed swords of various multi-colored trees. According to the PA State Tourism Bureau, Pennsylvania has 127 varieties of trees and every one turns a completely different shade in the fall. Some of the spectacular fall trees which you will see on your travels include the bright yellow and orange sugar maples, brilliant red dogwoods, stunning red maples, purple-tinged ashes and yellow elms and oaks. Now, what about winter? I am not a winter person. The only time I like winter is when I am on a ski slope in Colorado, Utah or St.Moritz. The air is dry, and the snow is sott. In St. Morizt, you can actually ski through Switzerland, France and Italy in one morning or afternoon. What a treat!
