Guest guest
Hi Pat. Thanks for sending me this link. Now I understand why bifida bacteria and pectin are not allowed. Can anybody answer my other question, about SCD-allowed brands of yogurt that are sold in the Toronto, Ontario area? Or do I have to learn how to make yogurt before I start the diet? On Saturday, I visited a health food store and two large supermarkets in central Toronto. I looked at every single version of yogurt sold in the health food sections, the kosher sections, and the general dairy sections. I couldn't find any yogurts that I could be sure were safe. Most of the yogurts only listed " live bacterial culture " without giving specifics. The few that did list the specific types of bacteria all included bifida. I am exhausted from all that shopping, and frustrated that I didn't find any yogurts. On a positive note, though, I did find Western pressed cottage cheese in the main dairy case at Loblaw's (Forest Hill location). Am I correct in thinking that pressed cottage cheese is the same as dry curd cottage cheese? Thanks for further help. You have to make your own. Or buy it from someone that is willing to make it for you. All you need is SCD approved starters. But you can start the diet and learn to make yogurt in the first weeks instead of beforehand. Good luck, Mara
Guest guest
Ellen, you do not need to know how to make yogurt before you start. Here is Carol's email address, she is from Canada and knowledgable, maybe she can help you. c.frilegh@... Guest guest
Hi Ellen: I'm new to SCD. I started SCD Jan 5, but didn't know about the intro phase and restarted it on Feb. 5. My body still can't tolerate the yogurt or DCCC yet so I just skipped the cheesecake part of the intro diet. I actually had made the cheesecake and when I tried it I had my first real relapse since starting the intro diet. I had been eating yogurt for about 3 days with a little bit of trouble when I made the cheesecake but i attributed that to die off. When I added the DCCC, I had a very minor relapse. It is my understanding that the list of foods in the PHASES are foods that most people can handle well. I am very tolerable to honey, cooked apples, carrots and zuccini where some people can't. We are all different and I think one of the points of SCD is to find what foods trigger your symptoms and avoid them until you are symptom free. Hope this helps as I know most people can tolerate yogurt and DCCC. I'm very dissappointed I can't because the cheesecake ROCKS with cooked apples on it. I don't understand how I can start the diet without yogurt, when one of the items in the introductory diet is yogurt. For instance, the lunch menu for the introductory diet includes SCD cheese cake, made without the crust, and the cheesecake recipe calls for both DCCC and yogurt (or yogurt dripped to make cream cheese).I have honey and DCCC. I also have the ingredients necessary to start making chicken soup again. But I don't have any yogurt.Am I misunderstanding the page about the introductory diet? Thanks.Ellen in Torontonot yet on SCD"Mara Schiffren" <alcibiadesrcn> wrote:> On Feb 24, 2008, at 1:24 AM, <enginuity4rogers> wrote:>>> Hi Pat.
