Guest guest
Hi everyone, Just got back from my evaluation with Heffez. To make a long story short.... Heffez said I had an extremely abnormal neuro exam. He said , " you must have been to neurologists! What did THEY have to say. I said that they basically would do balance tests etc. over and over till they could say I had a second of balance or they would say well, your reflexes are brisk but otherwise you're fine. I said they didn't do testing extensively like you did. He said I didn't seem to have the chiari problem to a significant degree and that stenosis in the cervical are seemed to be the main proble. I guess, in extension, my canal at c5 and 6 was 8 and 1 half mm and that there was significant compression there. he said that lying flat it was 10 and one half mm. He thought my neuro exam abnormalties were way out of proportion to the compression. I reminded him of dr. Rosner's findings that if the canal is small , the cord can be compressed even if it doesn't look like it and that if you enlarge the canal the cord will expand , showing that it was compressed afterall. He said " I know what you are trying to say and that I guess you could say that Dr. Rosner is more aggressive than I am. He would probably operate on you. Heffez was very nice and so was his helper , . He sent me home, for now with a soft collar and a prescription for ergonomics training. He wants to reevaluate through phone and a questionaire in 3 months. He said I am a candidate for surgery but first we try conservative approach. I'm not too disappointed.
