The workbooks I've seen out there have pictures of the coins co-mingled and my child finds it confusing. Is there anything easier out there?

Just use real coins instead and work with them. Also, ACE teachers supply store in Peppertree Plaza in Margate has some good tools to work with.Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Read reviews on AOL Autos.

We’ve used the Touch Money program.

The program is expensive. It was purchased through my son’s school. We’ve

also used worksheets from enchanted learning.com. I believe it’s about

$20 a year for membership…it’s been an excellent resource for us.

AM,When my son was little, I bought lots of play money, (coins and dollars) and when he did something special (smiled, blew a kiss, made his bed - you get the idea.) he got a few coins or a dollar. At the end of the week he could come to mom's store and spend his money to buy a toy, candy, stickers, etc. He was required to count out the money, and to count his change. ( things were priced from 3 cents to $1.55) It helped him learn to deal with money. I also would sit with my son and take all the change that I had in the bottom of my purse, and we would count it. Another way to count coins is to have him count 50 pennies and put them in a roll $2 in nickels and put them in a roll etc. Sorry to run on, but also, Broward schools, used to have a first grade math workbook that had coins to cut out and problems dealing with

buying things. (The were free at the schools warehouse for homeshcoolers.)G.Subject: How to teach money (counting coins)To: sList Date: Sunday, August 3, 2008, 7:30 PM

Touchmath has a coin counting approach. In my classroom, I put dots on the coins. The children can count by fives so each dot is five. Nickels get 1 dot, dimes get 2 dots, quarters get 5 dots.

Thank you ALL for your great advice! :) JeanC@... wrote: we played a game called "shopping" and preferred items ie. food or a movie could be bought. Amounts started simply with a few pennies then increased. Started with pennies and then added nickels, quarters and paper money...did this with work sheets to reinforce but real money seemed to work best, no confusion on the transfer over to the real thing. Also did ABA style skills give me one cents, then increased that difficulty with complex combinations of coins..still not perfect but we are getting there...Use opportunites such as a pretzel at the mall, or ordering Mcdonalds to practice....-------------- Original message from JodiNeuhof@...: -------------- You might want to create your own worksheets. Use fake money you can get at

Walmart. ACE educational on Sample Rd in Coral Springs has excellent workbooks, posters, games etc that help teach money skills. There is also an ACE in Davie. I'm not sure which is closer for you. I know it can be confusing so making your own usually works best, from my experience.-------------- Original message -------------- From: A P Hello all,Does any one have any helpful advice or recommend any workbooks or approach that teaches a child how to count coins. The workbooks I've seen out there have pictures of the coins co-mingled and my child finds it confusing.
