Act now to ban endosulfan! Dear Michele, The nations of the world are poised to consign one more DDT-era pesticide — endosulfan — to the history books, but one last country still needs convincing: India. Pesticide companies there are pulling out all the stops to convince Indian government officials to help them keep their product on the market. Our PAN partners in India are fed up and have asked for help in countering corporate influence. Please join this global effort» Urge the Indian government to stand up to pressure from endosulfan makers, and support a ban of the pesticide in India and around the world. Our partners on the ground in India want to collect 500,000 signatures to deliver to Indian officials by the end of this month. Endosulfan has already been banned or slated for phaseout in dozens of countries (including the U.S.) that have recognized the chemical’s devastating harms to people and the environment. This chemical is linked to seizures, and long-term effects like autism, delayed puberty and birth defects. Next month in Geneva, the global community will decide whether to ban this dangerous neurotoxin under the Stockholm Convention. Indian companies produce more endosulfan than any other country, and they are bombarding the Indian media and sympathetic government officials with lies and misinformation. So far, it’s been a winning strategy, and the Indian government has worked hard to protect the interests of its pesticide industry at the Stockholm Convention. Act Now» Join our partners in India and around the world urging the Indian government to put people’s health before industry profits. Thank you for joining PAN International in this important — and we hope final — push.
