Guest guest
Addie, there is no legal mayonnaise. If anything not deemed legal is used, it's at your own risk. There seems to be blogs and websites where people are using other than legal products, Elaine emphasized fanatical. Katy I saw this mayonnaise on the No More Crohns website.(www.nomorecrohns.com)I assume it's legal if she's using it in her recipes, as she seemsvery dedicated.I thought that we could only have homemade mayonnaise though? Is thisSpectrum brand legal then? I hope so! I don't love making it, andwould be nice to have a pasturized product.AddieUC 8yrsSCD 3 weeks. Guest guest
Hi Addie, The ingredients listed on it say "Expeller Pressed Organic Soybean Oil, Pasteurized Organic Whole Eggs, Pasteurized Organic Egg Yolks, Filtered Water, Organic Honey, Organic Distilled White Vinegar, Sea Salt, Organic Dry Mustard, Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate. (Gluten Free)" I did in fact email , owner of the site, about this in the past. My concern was the soybean oil, as the BTVC website says that soybean oil is illegal. said that all oils are legal, and she didn't know why BTVC website said this. She pointed out a section in the book BTVC where Elaine says these oils are legal, but I don't remember the page number. I think there was some debate as to whether soybean oil was legal and I think that's why Elaine changed it. I don't know what the final verdict was. Also, now that I look at it, several people say that juice concentrates are not legal because stuff might have been added to the concentrate before it went to the final manufacturer. So I really don't know. I never bought it because when it doubt, I don't bother. but I do wish it is legal. I don't know if the latest version of the book ever changed that. Mara
Guest guest
There is a cooked mayonaise recipe on pecanbread http://www.pecanbread.com/new/recipes1.html I haven't tried it yet; however, I used Spectrum mayo yesterday (first time since I went SCD Jan 5). It is what I used pre-SCD. I plan on making the cooked mayo above as my other mayo just never comes out right. There are people who choose to use commercial products because they don't want to make their own. But only if you make your own can you be certain of what went into it. I don't love making mayo, either -- and I don't like making mustard. (My poor Oster looks at me and says, " You want me to do WHAT with that mustard seed and vinegar? " ) But I simply don't trust anything commercial. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
