Guest guest
Vitamin K is given to all newborns upon arrival to the nursery or NICU. It aids in blood clotting. Vitamin K is synthesized by bacteria in the gut and since babies are born with a sterile gut, it is given to ward off possible hemmorhagic conditions that can occur within the first week of life. Most hospitals also have a protocol to give hepatitis B vaccine prior to discharge. They should obtain your consent first. That should be it.
