GMOs: Myths, Falsehoods, Superstitions

The history of GMO's in India is a sorted tale of corporate aggression and destitute farmers so in debt from season after season of failed crops that there has been a suicide epidemic as people see no way out of their poverty. Research is constantly providing information on why these crops won't end world hunger and instead just destroy the environment and sustainability of non-GMO crops and seeds. India has been one of the fiercest battle grounds in this debate as the country has been prayed upon by Monsanto and treated as a testing ground for engineered seeds and crops by imploring farmers to buy and plant the much more expensive seeds with the promise of bigger yields and heartier plants. The farmers have referred to the GMO seeds as 'Magic Seeds', but there is no magic, only failure.

Now, the Minister of Environment of India is pushing for trials of GM rubber trees in the GMO free State of Kerala with the aim of spreading them to other regions as a drought resistant crop. Confirmed: Mercury Cancels Out the Health Benefits of Fish Oil Because Too Much Fluoride Can Cause Health Problems

Under pressure to make a decision about safe levels of exposure to a fluoride-based pesticide, EPA and other agencies have taken action to address the risks of a mineral that has long been promoted as a necessity in good dental hygiene but which critics fear poses high risks of bone disease, neurological condition and lowered IQ's. Late last year, lawyers for the Fluoride Action Network, Beyond Pesticides, and Environmental Working Group threatened legal action if the EPA did not lower its ceiling on fluoride levels in water and yesterday, after the six-year campaign by the health advocates, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed that water utilities sharply reduce the amount of fluoride added to community drinking water.

In a Nov. 15 letter, the organizations stated that they will sue if the EPA does not act within 30 days on their years-long request to stay a rule setting safety tolerances for residues of two fluorinated pesticides, sulfuryl fluoride and fluoride anion, on food. "Based on this unfortunate history, my clients' patience has come to an end . . . EPA's failure to make . . . a decision will result in our seeking relief in federal court," the letter says.
