Guest guest
Mariyln, On the pecanbread website site concerning fermented vegies, Mark's recipe for sauerkraut is the one I've been using for a long time now and it taste great. He says he started out using dannon plain yogurt as the starter and that is what I use - I asume this is SCD legal because it sits at room temperature for a few days. It honestly taste like creamy coleslaw! (I add a little salt to mine before fermenting) Eating cabbage like this doesn't bother me. Tina SCD 1 yr."Wizop Marilyn L. Thanks..Raw cabbage might be a bit hard on a newly healing stomach. But since you can take cabbage and make sauerkraut without adding a starter (the cabbage leaves themselves have the right probiotics), I doubt they will harm your yogurt bacteria.Just incidentally, you can make the kraut, and if raw vegetables are not yet tolerated, you can drink the juice from the kraut to get good probiotics. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Ah, thank you -- I've never made the sauerkraut myself, and had forgotten that you can also make it with a starter. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
Addie, Go to the Pecanbread website, then click on fermented foods and it is at the bottom of the page. Enjoy! (I usually use less water than he calls for because I can't fit it all in the jars). It is the only way I can eat raw vegies (at least for now) and I love it.
