Guest guest
Dear Listmates: I'm looking for support in the disability community for you to write letters of support for me to our Board of Education in East Detroit Public Schools. There is an open board vacancy and I decided to try again. If anyone feels that I would represent our disabled population with respect and dignity, as well as support our families and students, please feel free to send a quick note to the Board members by Tuesday, August 12th. Thanks for your consideration. There are approximately 800+ students with disabilities in this district that are poorly represented within this district. Parent and student involvement are greatly lacking in this domain. 4) I'm also interested in the sociological perspectives of our minority students in this district, especially those with disabilities. I think I would make a good candidate from many reasons. 1) I am familiar with most special education laws. 2) I'm empathic to the daily challenges of students and families with special needs. 3) In my studies in college, I'm knowledgeable in the areas of psychology and sociology and diverse cultural groups. 4) I think that our community wants a fresh perspective on the Board of Education in East Detroit Public Schools. I received 1600 votes in the last election and I was an unknown candidate. I think it was my issues related to special education that gathered my support from the community last November. In conclusion, if chosen for the next board member, I will work hard and fair for all our families and students. Sincerely, Sandy McMurray autism arts
