Guest guest
Debbie, you will have to ask your doctor. I don't have Crohn's, so I don't know if it would apply in your case. Guest guest
Hi, I'm curious--always anemic here it seems like. Once you have vit B levels up, you can discontinue the vitamins? Thanks, Debbie 38 crohns dx scd restart 1/07 My blood tests show that my vitamin B level is up where it belongs and I am no longer anemic! Yay! I am getting better! I have one unopened bottle of Freeda (SCD) B Complex vitamins with C and Zinc (250 tablets) that my doctor says I no longer need, since my multi has enough B vitamins in it to suit my present needs. It is unopened, still has the tamper proof sleeve on the lid, and its expiration date is June 20, 2009. I paid $22.95 for it and am willing to sell it for $18.00 plus postage + $2.00 for a padded envelope. (If you send me your zip code, I can calculate the postage.) Guest guest
Deb I'm someone who couldn't get my B12 vitamin levels up enough by oral supplements, so had to switch over to B12 injections. My doctors have told me I will always need the shots; that my body will never be able to absorb enough B12 through oral supplements. My other B vitamin levels are low, but apparently my body is absorbing enough even though I can only tolerate a children's multi-vitamin once a week and can't take a Bcomplex vitamin (combination of having Interstitial Cystitis and a sensitive immune system). My doctors have said that I'll have to keep taking the multivitamin for at least some supplementation of the other B vitamins; but eventually I may need injections for them as well. So in my case I can't stop supplementing B vitamins, and need regular injections of one of the critical ones. It must vary with everyone. Kim M. Guest guest
's post prompted me share a related good experience I had when I went to donate blood yesterday. I have often been rejected due to low hemoglobin. Even before SCD, no matter how much iron-rich food I ate and even taking iron supplements, I would be deferred for blood donation about 1/2 the time due to anemia. Yesterday, they took the few drops of blood for testing and it dropped right to the bottom of the test container, which indicates good levels of hemoglobin. This has never happened for me before - they usually have to use the centrifuge to spin the blood and see if I'm above the threshold. I think my healing on SCD is enabling me to absorb the B vitamins (and the nutrients from my food, as well) and improve my tendency to be anemic. Yay for me, too! Kathy UC since 12/05 SCD since 7/07 sulfasalazine 2 pills a day (down from 6 a day that weren't working) > > My blood tests show that my vitamin B level is up where it belongs and I am > no longer anemic! Guest guest
Hi, did you tell them you had UC? I was told with Crohn's--they wouldn't let me donate blood. Never knew for sure if this was myth or not. Thanks, Debbie 38 crohn's scd restart 1/07 's post prompted me share a related good experience I had when I went to donate blood yesterday. Guest guest
Hi Debbie - This time, I didn't, because they didn't ask. During previous donations, however, they asked about the medications I was taking and I told them I was taking sulfasalazline for my UC. It wasn't a problem. None of the questions that disquality you had to do with Chrohn's. Kathy > > Hi, did you tell them you had UC? I was told with Crohn's--they wouldn't > let me donate blood.
