Hi all! I wanted to share today's post from my blog because I am excited about my revelation, and I want to you all to hold me accountable for this when I get back from my cruise! Thanks for reading!!BonnieFrom my blog, www.icecream4dinner.wordpress.comI had a small revelation today about my upcoming cruise to the Western Caribbean. I leave on Jan 4th and spend 7 wonderful nights cruising with my family to Belize, Honduras, Cozumel, and Bahamas. First of all, before IE, I would have started "crash-dieting" like crazy in order to have a perfect body by cruise time. Because of IE I now realize that the crash dieting may have led to a few lost pounds by the cruise, but I would have made it on to the ship and then just binged my way through the week. I have been on 4 previous cruises and many other beach vacations, and this has always been my pattern. So this time around I told myself I would not diet before my cruise. I chose to stick with IE and where it took my weight and be happy with it on the cruise. I have chosen to purchase some new clothes, get a new hairdo (tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes) and tan a few times before I go. I even got a few new bathing suits because my old ones are too small. Instead of feeling bad about not fitting into my old suits, I got excited about finding new ones that I would feel comfortable in at the weight I am. No sadness here!So now that I have the clothes and self-image parts taken care of prior to the cruise and feel good about my decisions, I began thinking about the possibilities of binging on really yummy foods once I boarded the ship. It is highly likely that I will consume more calories than I normally would in a week, given all of the alcholal, dessert bars, and menu choices. So I accepted that as ok. But what got me really excited was remembering a passage from "When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies" that tells about a group of women on a week-long retreat revolving around IE. The basic idea was while they were there learning about IE, the kitchen/eating area was stocked with every food imaginable. If they didn't have it, the ladies could request a food they think they might want, and it would be brought in. The kitchen was open all hours. The ladies were told not to eat by the clock, but whenever they were physically hungry. So they could go it, sit down and make a request to the server. ANYTHING they wanted THEY GOT! The whole idea was for them to feel physical hunger, make the decision to feed it, then sit down and think about what sounded good to them. They could say anything they thought sounded good, and they would be served it! The whole week revolved around this concept along with learning about IE. I thought it sounded sooo wonderful when I read it, and wished I could find a retreat that I could go to and work on my IE.Then I realized today that this cruise is exactly what I was wanting! The Norwegian Pearl is my Ladies IE Retreat! They ship has 14 different restaraunts, some open 24 hours. There are multiple buffets and room service. I basically can eat on my own time schedule, and sit with my family with a glass of wine while they eat! I will also have the relaxed atmosphere to be able to feel my hunger and listen to my Sweet Wild Child and Foodie Police Girl to hear what everyone decides to eat. And the menu is limitless! Steak, mexican, asian, sushi, italian, cheeseburgers and fries, pizza, ice cream...its all there! This is my fabulous opportunity to focus on my IE skills and put to work what I have learned so far.My cruise has become an experiment in Intuitive Eating - I will let you know how it goes. I am so excited that I have a purpose for the upcoming week, instead of feeling like I will be coming out of it stuffed and wondering what happened to my IE skills!I am also happy to say that I have had time this week to up my Jazzercise workouts. I got to go 1 class yesterday, and 2 classes today. I plan on getting in as many classes as I can fit before we leave. My goal is not to lose weight in the next week before my trip, cause I don't care and I won't step on a scale anyway. But I do know there is muscle under some of that fat, and the fat won't be so jiggly if the muscle under it is tight! So tighter legs, arms and abs in a week is what I am working for. Also good news is that my brother-in-law is going on the cruise with us, and he is a kick-ass personal trainer, so my sis and I are going to bring our gym clothes and he is going to put us through some don't-stop-till-ya-puke workouts. So there is a good chance that I will come back from my cruise feeling better than I did when I left!I'm gonna try to keep a journal on my progress, I am hoping to bring my computer with me so I can at least type, even though I won't have internet service. Otherwise, I'll just have to hand write it out!(Just to show I am still working on IE, after 2 classes tonight, I had Reece's Peanut Butter ice cream first for dinner, decided I was still hungry so I had a little homemade queso and chips for dessert! Yummy!) Send e-mail anywhere. No map, no compass. Get your Hotmail® account now.
