Welcome back Jacey,

Applegate has changed their ingredients back and forth.

This is their current claim:

We use only lean quality cuts of whole muscle meat.

Our animals are never administered any antibiotics or growth hormones

from birth.

We never use MSG, fillers, colorings, sugars or sweeteners, or by-

products of any kind.

Out of concern and respect for folks with allergies to wheat and

dairy products, our hot dogs are gluten and casein free.

I wonder what spices they use and if they are legal. Gluten free does

not always mean starch free. These hot dogs have been used by parents

on the Pecanbread SCD list for ASD children when the ingredients were

legal. They hen switched them and finally made yet another change.

Pecanbread still is the best list to subscribe to when doing SCD for

a child. You can ask them abut Applegate.

I think you were there before. Strict or fanacticl adherence is

required on SCD. We keep harping on that but you now realize the

importance!

No sugar cane juice or sugar, maple or corn syrup is legal. Only

honey and the approved artificial sweeteners.

Jacey,

Applegate has gone back and forth on what is in their stuff. SOme people

swear by them. Some people swear at them. I prefer to make my own hot

dogs... recipe available on request.

>> 2) what about sugar cane juice? (i know this sounds ridiculous

to even ask a question about " sugar " but still confused about

the difference between juice and sugar.) <<

Sugar is sugar is sugar. " raw organic cane juice " may be better

for people without gut issues than refined white sugar, but it's STILL

sugar!

>> 3) did anyone stop pooping for a couple days after starting?

Since I have little kids on the diet and do not have it myself, I would

love the help of adults who are going through it. <<

Can't help you on this one.... I was entirely too spaced from anesthesia.

I just remember they were happy when I did poop. <wry

Jacey,

I just came across this electrolite drink on pecanbread.com that may

help with your constipation:

Try the electrolyte drink

It is a big help in the beginning. It doesn't taste great but

you can add a splash of juice to give it a better flavor. It is also

helpful for those who are constipated, another common beginner's

complaint.

I started this diet today after 3 years on gfcf with my kids. I just

finished preparing my first

batch of yogurt. hehehe.

I have 3 questions -

1) can we use any Applegate hotdogs, bacon, etc.? (I know "no processed

meats" but it seems

like the ingredients are ok on the diet.

2) what about sugar cane juice? (i know this sounds ridiculous to even

ask a question about

"sugar" but still confused about the difference between juice and

sugar.)

3) did anyone stop pooping for a couple days after starting?

Since I have little kids on the diet and do not have it myself, I would

love the help of adults

who are going through it. I need someone to VERBALLY tell me how they

are doing. I have

read BTVC and Band of Mothers....and have all the cookbooks. (I did

this with my daughter 2

years ago...not strictly...but it did cure her of colitis. She has

I was not sure either. I know it is not given to babies under one year of age. I found an illegal  recipe on the Internet that calls for honey an milk o be heated to 225 and another:Cook honey to hard crack stage (285F) stirring constantly. Pour onto buttered marble slab. As soon as outside edges cool enough to touch, fold to center and make long roll. Start stretching or pulling while hot. Pull until honey becomes light and porous and small strings develop. Cut into short pieces. Place in paper lined metal cans for two days to soften. So Wikopedia may be referring to a particular honey. If I weren't so exhausted I'd email them :-)As Elaine usd to say, "What do I know?" We aren't supposed to use raw, unfiltered honey anyway, and raw is the

one with the enzymes.

I suspect the Wikipedia caution was lifted from a site talking about

reheating plastic honey bears to decrystalize the honey for pouring.

I'm SURE that would be toxic!
