Guest guest
Kathy, I just reversed your actions. I usually use Yogurmet starter however several had written they use Fage yogurt as starter. I was in Whole Foods a couple of days ago and picked up a small Fage yogurt just to try making yogurt with it. Well. . . . ., I ate the first of the Fage induced yogurt this morning and it was very bland after my taster being geared to the other starter. Yes, the Yogurmet starter makes a more tart yogurt but I prefer it. I just add a bit more honey to it as I don't have a yeast overgrown like some do. Guest guest
Ginger, that is so ironic! Well, I guess it's worth trying things different ways. Hopefully someone will be able to respond to the questions about whether " tart means better for your system " - and I have been adding more honey to my " starter-induced " yogurt, which I honestly would rather not do (since I eat plenty of honey in other forms like frozen yogurt, cheesecake, and other sweet treats ...) Thanks for sharing your experience! Kathy > > Kathy, I just reversed your actions. Guest guest
Hi Mara, Thanks for the explanation of how the yogurt helps the beneficial bacteria during digestion - that makes sense. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the full-fat Dannon yogurt anywhere around where I live, and I think all the lower-fat varieties have illegals in them. That's probably what I started using the Fage Total initially. I think I could get used to the tartness for my daily yogurt, but I think for my indulgence (full cream frozen yogurt), I'll use the Fage starter to keep it sweeter. My sweet tooth has not gone away on SCD, although it's definitely less vicious. <grin> I might also try adding acidophilus (from my SCDophilus supplements) to the Fage Total starter and see how that works.
