I did not use an acidophilus supplement for the first four years I was on SCD, and did quite well. Then came Hurricane Katrina, and my access to yogurt was a bit dicey, to say the least. I now use the acidophilus whenever I run out of yogurt, although I have to say that the yogurt sure tastes better than gulping pills. I also take the acidophilus with me when I'm going to be eating out and take a couple capsules with my dinner. It seems to help with things like twits who can't tell the difference between real butter and a powdered butter " sauce. " I have recently started using s.boulardii as there were some minor annoyances that just weren't clearing up that I thought it might help with -- and it has. However, I have to say, I took the first dose on the night before my day off, and it was a good thing. I woke up feeling like I'd been beaten with an ugly stick. Massive flu symptoms. Die-off! I did not take any that day, and felt much better by evening and the next day, then I started with a much smaller amount and built up. <smiling> It's doing the trick, which pleases me immensely. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
