Welcome to the list Christi. You were on another list I was on but I

can't remember which one - I recognize your email address. How old is

Amandelyn? Bart will be 3 months tomorrow. He is exclusively

breastfed except for one day of formula/mom's milk when he was 3 days

old. I work so am pumping as well. We also co-sleep and would use a

sling if Bart liked it. (LOL!) I hope you enjoy this list - I think

you will.

Welcome Maisa!

Congrats on your new beautiful baby! I'm glad things are going so well

despite the bumpy start. I'm about to have that start myself. I'm

expecting my first baby any day now. Really, I'm 6 days past due so SOON!

I am very close with a family from Syria - they are like family to me. I've

learned a lot about the middle eastern cultures from them. Such neat food

and customs and traditions! Anyway, welcome and I hope you enjoy this group

as much as I do.

Maisa,

Welcome to the list. You aren't the only muslim, I know there is another muslim

woman here. She put up the islamic tenets of breastfeeding which was so

interesting. I am glad to have you here. I am Wendi sahm to Kaija 7yo

(homeschools) and Zaid 18 months (still nursing) I am married and live in No.

Ca. Congratulations on your precious baby. I look forward to hearing more from

you.

Introduction

Hello ! My name is Maisa . I'm new to this list , so let me tell you a little

about myself. The cute new addition to my family is AbdulRahman , born

2-11-99, who is BF. I am a first time mommy and with that came alot of

hardships ! I probably am the only Middle Eastren on the list , I am from

Saudi Arabia ( currently living in US ). I would like to share some of my

culture regarding BF or baby care in general . If you have any questions

please do not hesitate.

In our religion (Islam) , Bf is highly encouraged , for 2 years . In our

culture it is soooo common to see mothers BF their babies , you just grow up

with it . Everyone does it , bottles are introduced to babies of working

mothers, or after they can start taking cows milk. Otherwise it is normal to

go to a family gathering and have a couple of moms BF thier babies while

chatting. And since Saudi Arabia is a rather young society ( meaning , a high

% of the population are children ) , every family has a considerable number

of infants and /or toddlers . Neighbor SAHMs would visit each other during

their free time and BF while they chat away. BF is also common in public.

Because Muslim women wear long robes in public, BF is done in a very discrete

manner. I was a BF baby and so were all of my siblings, my mom, dad, and

grandparents etc. They just didn't know anything else !!

I am glad to be part of this ring. I will write my experience with BF soon .

How ironic it is ! I grew up seeing all these women BF, I had alot of support

from Mom and dh , and was commited to BF . But , I had a bumpy start !

Hi!

I'm Tammy, wife of and mom to ,13, ,10 and Maddie, 15

months. All three of my children were (are)breastfed, for different periods

of time. The boys were both born in the hospital and we supplemented with

formula for a few weeks, and then exclusively breastfed for about 10 months

each. We had Maddie at a birth center and she nursed for the first time when

she was about 10 minutes old. She's still going strong.

I've never nursed a toddler before and was hoping I could find some support

and advice from those who have; and give some support and advice to those

just starting out. I am a LLL member and plan on attending the conference in

July. I would love to talk to others that are going too.

I've been in " lurking " mode for a day or so and I have to say the lactating

men thread is cracking me up. Maddie tries for Daddy's nipples all the time,

and then laughs at him for having such silly little things.

Hi, grads, Thursday July 13 was my one-year anniversary, so I'm coming out

of lurk mode to introduce myself. My name is Kathy, I live in New Braunfels

Texas, and I had my open RNY with Dr. Selinkoff in San . My

starting weight was 306, I'm 5'6 " , and my current weight is 163, a loss in

one year of 143 pounds. I'm really pleased with my progress...a year ago, I

couldn't have imagined weighing this amount. My goal is to get to 150, so

I'm 13 lbs. away. My weight loss has slowed considerably, as I suppose it

should, but I'm hoping to get down a little more. My tummy, legs, boobs and

arms are pretty flabby, but at this stage I don't have much hope of getting

any plastic surgery done. I was hoping at my one-year checkup that my doc

would find a hernia, but no such luck. I quit a very well-paying, very

stressful job a year ago in April, and since then I've started my own

business doing computer training, but the money isn't exactly rolling in, so

no chance of being a self-pay. But it's a good trade-off considering the

flexible schedule, the fact that I traded my boss-from-hell for being the

boss.

I am wearing a size 12 dress, mostly size 14 jeans...it still boggles my

mind that I once was bursting out of size 26/28's. I see myself in the

mirror and wonder, " Who is that? She looks familiar. " I haven't come to

grips with my thinner image, but then I never saw myself as really fat,

either...which I definitely was. I had an image of myself at about 225 or

so...and I still do. My brain seems to be stuck somewhere in the middle.

Most of my friends and family have been very supportive, but I've noticed

that as I've gotten THINNER than a few of them (including my mother) they

have gotten decidedly more cool towards me. They were really gung-ho about

my success until I passed them by...suddenly they are saying things that are

not-so-supportive, like, " MY GOD!! Are you even HEALTHY?? " and " What do you

mean you haven't lost anything in two weeks?? You must be eating too much!

You're probably going to bust your staples and gain it all back! You better

be careful! " My husband has been wonderfully supportive, he compliments me

at least once a day. This amazes me since he was very against the surgery at

first. But he's agreed that it was the best thing I've ever done for myself.

My PCP was very uninformed about the surgery, I had to educate him somewhat

to get a referral. He's still not terribly informed about it, but he's

impressed enough with my success that he has begun referring patients to my

surgeon. I consider this a huge step forward for him.

So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Thank you all for sharing your

generous support, advice and knowledge. I feel like I know you all already.

Hi!I am a new subscriber to this list. Let me introduce myself. My name is Betsey Syms (newly married on 9/22/01) and I started WW on 1/13/01. I was inspired by my mother-in-laws 25 lb weightloss with Weight Watchers. I'd read some article on MSN that said that a new moon was a good time to start a diet. Next one was on 1/13, so I thought I'd give it a shot.I have been overweight since I was eight years old. I don't remember what happened then, but my activity level no longer could keep up with my eating habits. I've been everywhere from 130 lbs to 250 lbs over the years (I am 33). I started WW on 1/13 at 243. I am now 232. Hi Maureen!

Thanks for the welcome. This group seems great!

I try to drink at least 100 ounces of water a day, but I have a

tough time sticking to it on the weekends at home. I wonder why it

is so much easier for me to stay on program at work? I do okay with

points, but I get dehydrated on the weekends. I have pretty much

stopped drinking carbonated sodas and stick to water.

I had a bad setback last week. I gained three pounds. It freaked me

out because I was at or below points range all week, but I had been

bad about water and fiber all weekend and Monday is WI. I lose it

all during the week, but I seem to gain it back on the weekends.

Any suggestions

Take care, all!

Hi Betsey,

First of all, you really need to make sure to get the water in!!!! I know that it can be hard at times. I have a difficult time at work because I work at a school and am either in classrooms teaching or in the office. At home I always have a 32 ounce mug with me and drink all day! Secondly, you need to eat at least your minimum points every day! I know that this too is hard, this was my hardest thing to do since joining ww. I would go all day without eating. This sends your body into starvation mode and it will hold onto all the fat!!! In fact the best thing to do is mix up your points, all within your range, having one day at the low end, one in the middle, and one on the high end. This way your body doesn't know what to expect and is more likely to let go of the fat.

Are you journaling everything you eat and drink? That maybe one way to help you visualize what you are doing. What about exercising?

Hi Everyone,I first heard about intuitive eating at a lecture at my university, but I didn't research it further until much more recently. As far as how far on the IE journey I have gotten, I don't know if I have " hit bottom " yet, but I do know that no diet is sustainable for a lifetime, and I refuse to diet for the rest of my life, so IE definitely seems the way to go. I'm excited to read more of what you all have to say -- its really nice to know I'm not completely alone in not knowing how to eat -- but I'm excited to learn.
