Guest guest
Ok, I'm looking for advice and support. We *just* moved, and two days after moving into our new place (and all the stress of that), my fiance's parents arrived from England to stay with us for two weeks. Their visits are always incredibly hard for me b/c they stay for such a long time, they want to eat out constantly, and when we stay in, his mom insists on cooking all of my fiance's comfort foods from England. So, for two weeks, I've got either Mexican or Italian restaurants (their favorites), or massive beef-and-potato dishes smothered in canned gravy, and stewing in their own fat all day. If you can believe this...his mother actually has a fear of birds, and will only eat red meat! All of my efforts to try to cook something lighter have always been met with disapproval, because this is the food they know and love. She is also very offended if I don't eat whatever she has prepared, and I think feels that I should be learning to call all these meals for her son. The psychological toll of all the heavy meals (plus the invasion of my personal space) triggers my eating-disordered head. I become stressed about it and start feeling like, " I'm gaining weight, I should eat less, " etc....which immediately triggers my cravings for mass amounts of sweets, which have always been my downfall. Help! I'm one week in, with one week to go, and I feel like a crazy person. Anyone who has dealt with complicated family issues like this, please send advice! Thanks. -
Guest guest
Take a deep breathe, and thank your stars that they don't live next door... Tell her you have a fear of cows and only eat chicken...
