Monika, Press a finger of garlic. Mix with 2 tablespoons of honey. Take 1-2 teaspoons as needed. If nothing else, it inspires you with a powerful desire to get really, really well before the next dose is due. (A friend who came down sick at a house party wailed, " It'd make a good glaze for a ham... but I'm not a ham! " which caused everyone at the party to collapse, giggling hysterically, since the individual in question was a dyed-in-the-wool comedian.) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
I use a simple recipe that worked better than the commercial cough syrup I was giving my daughter. There is so much documented proof that cough syrup really doesn't work. Even my Woman's World and First magazines talk about it. For a wet or mucousy (I like to make up words) cough: 1 C. Honey 2 C. Water A bunch of thyme Heat water to simmer, take off the heat. Add honey thyme, stir well to combine. Let it steep for 2 hours and strain the mixture. It lasts for 3 months in the fridge and can be given every 2 hours. No limit per day. Dry cough... sounds like a bark. It's caused by inflammation. If it's really cold outside, bring your child outside for 5 minutes. Since it doesn't get very cold here in Louisiana, you can also stick your child's head in an open freezer for 5 minutes. If they are old enough, ask them to breathe deeply. This was the only thing that gave my daughter relief enough to sleep a couple years ago. Cough syrup didn't work at all; even the honey/thyme mixture because of the inflammation. The cold air reduces it.
