It's a book full of fables that the writer has related to eating or what she calls disordered eating. The stories are really helping me on my IE journey. One story is about a girl that falls into a river (life) and the river is rushing and tossing and turning, thus she feels like she is going to drown so she grabs a hold of a log (food) and the log keeps her safe as she travels down this crazy out of control river. Eventually she comes to a place where the river is calm and she can see the shore and she want to let go of the log but what if she can't make it to the shore. She tries to make it to the shore carrying the log but that doesn't work. People keep yelling at her to "just" let go of the log. It's kind of crazy that the very thing that saved her life is now getting in the way of her getting where she want to go. Letting go of it all at once is to much, she does not trust she will be able to make it to the shore. But she is willing to let go for a few minutes and float right next to the log, then if she needs the log it will still be there. Next she move a little farther away and practices treading water, knowing she can get back to the log. Then she swims around the log once, twice, half a dozen times, ect. Finally she feels she is ready to swim to shore. This story has helped my realize I'm not a bad girl as I keep needing to return to the log (food) right now. It's all part of the process. If I would not expect the girl to let go of the log and "just" trust she can make it........why would I expect me too. But I was. I was getting made at myself and considering myself a failure every time I returned to the log. What an amazing journey this is. Yahoo!
