Nidia I missed your original post, but caught Ambers response. I have an 8 year old son with no words until about a year ago. Now we get the odd word, phrase, song but nothing consistent apart from an approximation for hello when greeting. This consistency is new (Yeah!). He is profoundly dyspraxic/apraxic, ADHD, SID. We have no official label for him other than autistic traits and global developmental delay. He is a very happy child and that gives me great comfort. We have had great improvement with EFA supplements: he is less stressed and 'with us' now whereas previously he was so busy coping with motor planning, vestibular and vision problems he had little energy left to engage with the world. Although his many issues still need to be addressed I feel optimistic for the future. His SLT believes we will get more speech from him and she does not make such statements lightly. I have, however, cried buckets of tears for him over the years, hitting a very bad patch at his first birthday and again at his second. These milestones were very painful. :-( My advice to you is very simple: ask many questions, read all you can and don't forget to look after yourself. Guest guest
Hi here's 's site http://ca.geocities.com/nid_kid/meginha.html let me know what you think. does babble and she does understand basic commands. SHe may have some kind of learning disability, but she is not retarded. She has good vision and hearing as far as we know, and I JUST DON " T know whatelse to do!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO FRUSTRATED B?C WE DON " T BELONG ANYWHERE!!! There is no diagnosis & therefore no prognosis and that just is so frustrating!!! is not autistic, and she just doesn't quite fit in anywhere! What should we do? Can you help us spread s website around & get the word out! We don't even know what to test her for. The doctors haven't even mentioned the words apraxsia, or any other terminology used here for non verbal children. She tries but she can not pucker to kiss so she licks, she can not blow to make soap bubbles, and she she can not lick her lips from side to side either apparently these are three signs of a non verbal child. I don't know anymore than that!!!! I am so mad at these doctors!!! They haven't taught or told us anything except " We don't know! " ~ Well neither do we so now what???? Sorry Iguess I just needed a little venting. I'm done......sheesh where did all that come from huh. Anyway please visit and let me know what you think.
