Guest guest
It's hard to say how long it will last because all children with autism are different. However, you can give him some supplements that will calm his behavior down so he will feel better and you can deal better with the transition. Rescue Remedy is a Bach Flower homeopathic that is in a convenient spray bottle so when he starts acting out you can spray it in his mouth and he'll calm down. Lavender Flower drops by Nature's Answer - put in a juice is calming as well Essential oils such as a combo with lavender can be put on his clothes. There's a store called Nature's Symphony in downtown Boca Raton that sells everything and will tailor make. You can also put him on some GABA a couple times a day if need be Valerian Root is also an herb that calms right down that you can get in drops in the health food store. It might be something to consider putting your son on a digestive enzyme like the DPPIV complete from Kirkman Labs or Klaire Labs has Vitalzyme Complete with DPPIV. The DPPIV helps digest gluten and casein for the kids who are intolerant to both. The enzyme might just calm him right down as well. Guest guest
Hi Maureen, Many children go through a withdrawal period. The time varies, one or two weeks is not unusual. Are you going " cold turkey " or easing into it? Sometimes the withdrawal is lessened if you do just cf or just gf at first, then when that is going ok, add the other. You don't have to do it all at once. Also, sometimes when you eliminate some foods, you end up giving them more of something else that they previously had been eating as much of, and that sometimes causes a reaction. For example, when we started gfcf, my son started eating bananas all the time, several a day, and he got really hyper and aggressive. When we limited him to just one a day he was fine. My feeling is go slow and steady, ease into it, and moderation in all things is key! Hang in there! > > > My son has been on the gfcf diet for 5 days now . Guest guest
Hang in there, I know it's hard, but it's worth it. Be sure to look at the shampoo and other external body products that you use because many contain Gluten and you may not even realize it. I work with a little girl whose mom used the wrong shampoo and she had to go through the process over again. THe child had pain in her head and was rubbing it on the carpet for a while. Guest guest
Behavior Therapy will work much better for some childrens. My son is 6 yrs old and he had lots of SIB and was wearing a helmet and gloves all day and since he has Behavior at home he is much better now and he is communicating more and he is not on the special diet or anything (he was a long time ago), the diet works for some kids but for some DON”T only lots of behavior therapy is the key for all these in my opinion. Guest guest
I am so new and inexperienced I feel like I am doing something wrong . I will definitely investigate any external gluten products . My sons eczema has probably become worse not better. He is a lot more itchy . We already had him off most dairy products due to his skin irratations and sinus issues but I cant understand what may be going on inside him ???
