Guest guest
I'm sorry, but I simply do NOT believe that a person of only 29 years would be experiencing the kind of great discomfort that you are describing simply through being only 30 pounds overweight (over whose weight, anyway?). There must be an underlying cause to those extreme symptoms. It just sounds like professional laziness on the part of your so- called doctor - it's all too easy to blame the patient and the familiar whipping-boy of " overweight " , rather than making the effort to diagnose the real problem. I say find a new health care professional, pronto! (And preferably one who is more caring and open-minded when it comes to supporting patients who are pursuing gradual, achievable and sustainable weight loss through non-dieting practices). Good luck, Sig > > Hey all. I am wondering if anyone has had an experience similar to > mine and what your suggestions would be. > > Before I started IE I saw my doctor for a routine check up. Guest guest
I wholeheartedly agree! First, most doctors go by the BMI to determine what we should weigh, and as anyone who has looked into it knows that the BMI is a bunch of bullsh*t. Second, what did your doctor do to detemine *what else* besides weight might be the problem, or did she just tell you to diet and send you on your way? I would be seriously pissed if my doctor did that. I'd feel dismissed as a human being. No wonder you ate to cope with your emotions afterward, I probably would have too! Get a new doctor, then *tell the other doctor* how your visit made you feel, and why you left. Meg IE since Feb '08 > > > > Hey all. Guest guest
Dawn, You've hit one of my hot buttons on this topic. It seems like doctors love to fall back to their reference information and also get blinded by seeing a person as 'fat' instead of closing their eyes and listening to what that person has to say. I've gotten so worked up over this ONE issue that I almost want to NOT go to the doctor's office any more. Forget the prescriptions, I'd rather HAVE high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholestrol and/or any of all the other 'horrible' things my so-called obesity is supposedly causing me. What about all the THIN people I know who have those conditions?!? GRRR - Sorry for the rant - Katcha
