What does that word mean?

Subject: Students punishedTo: sList Date: Thursday, October 2, 2008, 9:10 AM

My son who is autistic 5 years old goes to main steam school. He came home and was pulling his hair (mimicking) and said in Spanish "Quieto" a word we do not use at home. I asked him who told you that?, where were you told Quieto?, school he responded, but he did not want to tell me the name. The school is in Broward County and his teacher has been very helpful in this matter along with the classroom's aid neither one of them speak Spanish and it was reported to the assistant Principal. They are keeping an eye on this woman.I don't understand why is it that someone who does not have the patience to work with these children are working for the school system, I am sure the Broward county jail is hiring!.

Good Morning Mom/Dad...

This is not the only case, but I really think the same. Why is the public school system hiring people without the essential skills to work with children, or special needs children, or further on, why are colleges and universities accepting people with no vocations for teaching at all... I don't understand either, and as a mother I suffered together with my son for more than the reason you are sharing in your email.

So I think it is time for us, as parents affected directly with these actions, to go to PTA's meetings and speak, o to write letters to the principals, and to talk with our advocates, also to participate in the ESE Advisory Council... this is the only way we can do something and avoid that another child (probably not directly related to us by blood, but our child in the sense of a human being) will have to go through whatever our own children went through... not fair at all!!!

In my case was also a Broward County School, a magnet program.

Sincerely,

Fabiola

We had a school bus aide that was very rough and mean with the

students. This was a special ed bus, but there just isn't enough

money to have fully trained people with our children all the time, I

guess. At least that's what i tell myself.

One day, the school bus folks want to talk to me. My son, who was

at that time about 15 years old, had gotten " nasty " with the aide.

He was disrespectful and didn't do what she told him. The aide

said that he had called her a B**ch, and that she was going to write

him up and that no one called her that. I asked my son right there

if he had a problem with this woman, and he indicated yes. He was

clearly not happy to be around her. I told him he could come on the

bus and sit down, but don't speak to the woman. But that is all I

did.

After paying all this money for therapy to get my son to express

himself appropriately to his circumstances, there was NO WAY I was

going to say she wasn't a B**ch. She WAS one - and he called it

the way he saw it. AMEN.
