Guest guest
Hi I'm new this message board. My son Jake is 2.11 months old, he has apraxia, and a seizure disoder. I'm currently researching the use of efa supplements, pro-efa, eflax, etc.... the only negative side- effect that i've come acroos from my research is from the products containing evening primrose oil, primrose oil can cause seizures, and se seizure prone people shouldn't use it. there are alternate products, that don't contain primrose oil, for exmaple: borage oil, codliver oil. to be honset i can't remeber from my research and i'm not at home to check my papers, but i'm not sure what's in proefa, so you'll have to check proefa, and see what it has in it. I do know that it's a good idea to stay away from anything that can cause seizure's. good luck I'm still searching to see if efa supplments are a good route for my son, he has some of the signs of fatty acids deficiences, dry skin, brittle nails, excessive thrist, and many more. so I am leaning to it,i just feel funny giving him something that isn't given out by a dr. What dose would i give him anyways? New to this group, mom to josh age 8, was globally delayed, made honors this yr, with a 7th grade reading level, and the nonstop 2.11, apraxia, and seizure disorder
Guest guest
- WELCOME! I've only been here a short time but have found the information, ideas and support invaluable. I just wanted to give you a quick opinion of giving kids the ProEFA. I'm with you in that I like my doc, I chose him because he's kind, extrememly knowledgable, open-minded, etc.. I was a bit concerned about self-medicating my sons with the ProEFA, as was my husband. He kept saying " let's feed them more fish " . I found out in my searches that taking a proefa is the equivalent of like 2-3 oz of salmon - smaller than a deck of cards. Getting the Omega 3 (borage oil or primrose oil) used to be much easier for people as it's found in the parts of the animal that we (I) now consider inedible: kidneys, brains, heart, etc. (gag). So I consider getting it from a plant source a VERY good thing. (I'm adventurous in the kitchen, but not THAT adventurous!) After finding some of these things out, it made it easier for me to supplement my kids. The content of my older son's speech leapt amazingly and my younger son started to babble and added a few words. Also, my younger son's eczema cleared up and some digestive " issues " also cleared up. Just wanted to give you my 2 cents. I don't know that it will work for everyone, but it's worth a try. I'm more comfortable giving the ProEFA than I am a chemically-based, laboratory-contrived cold medicine. Does that make sense?? Hope I didn't come across rabid or anything. I just wanted to tell you what I found out to see if it could allay your fears. Have a great night - and thanks for posting all the info. I think the old-timers here get tired of having to do it!! Guest guest
, Is it one capsule per day, no matter what size the child is? Guest guest
Hi Marina and others, Can you tell me what brand you used that worked for you best and exactly what the product name is? I'm getting a little confused with so many names - ProEFA, ProEPA, Omega 3, etc. I'm very new at this, and I want to make sure I get the right one. I went to the Nordic Naturals website which seems to be the brand of choice for many, but they have a few products and I don't know which one is the right one. HELP! I want to try this with my son, Christian (22 months old) just a few days ago suspected of having apraxia. Thanks! -----Original Message----- Just wanted to give you my 2 cents. Guest guest
Hi Anne Marie...There are some people giving up to three capsules depending on the age and size....we tried the 2 capsules a day....but found that it was no different from the one capsule...You sort of have to use trial and error...What is the age/size of your child? Love and Hugs, , Mom to TWINS Aidan & Devlin, 28 weekers, now 2 1/2 years, IUGR , TTTS, A's & B's , ROP (resolved), pulmonary Stenosis with a gratient so low...no surgery needed!, Atrial Septal Defects....being watched, intrahepatic portal shunt (liver now resolved) but still monitoring those liver enzymes, global delays, severe communication delays...dyspraxia (Clumsy child syndrome)......taking EFA's (ProEfa- Nordic Naturals)... going to pre-school 2 a week and doing great! HAPPY, BEAUTIFUL little boys.....a constant inspiration and source of joy to their parents.
