I think I see why we have different reactions - in Canada if I ask our

licensing board about a doctor - they give me information like - name,

education, experience - but if I inquire about any complaints I get " The

Board can neither confirm nor deny any complaints against a physician. The

Board publishes the results of any investigation of a doctor in our

newsletter (The Boards newsletter - public can request but you have to know

it exists) but decisions will be published with or without the doctors name

as deemed appropriate by the Board " . So I guess that's the problem - in

Canada I can't get that information - feel free to make disparaging remarks

about Canada's system in regards to this - I CERTAINLY AM!! If people in the

States CAN get that information - then I agree with you %100.

Just so you know - I am making as much " noise " about this issue as I can in

Canada (media, government etc.) because it is insane we can't get that

information, I'll leave the ASBS alone now that I know American's DO have

some alternative.

> Again, don't blame the ASBS. There are many " cut and run " surgeons who are

members just as there are hundreds of bad docs who are members of the

American Medical Association. Memberhship in these organizations doesn't

always mean they are competant. One needs to do his or her homework before

surgery and find out which docs have had complaints or even sanctions etc.

The state licencing boards can give people that info.
