Guest guest
Hi Leena, Welcome to the group! I love your observation. It will save you money on magazines, that’s for sure! I got rid of all of my subscriptions, truth is they just recycle articles anyway and it’s the same old boring stuff. And one article will contradict another in the same issue! You’ll probably find that you can’t be around diet talk either. You’ll be amazed how much time is spent talking about food, diet, body image, exercise, etc., it crazy. I have had to tell my family that I no longer want to discuss diet or anything diet related any more. They think I’m weird, but I’m also an IE coach and they totally don’t get what I do. All I can do is laugh and hope someday they will come around. But it’s highly unlikely. Thanks! Anyway, I bought the book Intuitive Eating about 3 years ago, read a couple of chapters, skimmed pages and then never picked it up again until two weeks ago. I finally read the entire book and I swear it totally clicked with me. So the past couple of days I've made two trips to the grocery store and usually I like to browse the magazine section to see if there is something that I can entertain myself with. Most of the time I go for magazines such as, Self, Women's Health, Shape because after all if I wasn't being " healthy and active " I can read about it and at feel like I'm " healthy and active " right? Anyway, I observed my reaction to these magazines that was much different than before. I used to look to these magazines for help, for some type of quick fix to my weight issues and I used to look to these magazines for motivation. After finishing Intuitive Eating, all these magazines with their " lose weight fast!!! " headlines seemed extremely ridiculous. A waste of time and money now. Anyone else feel that way now about these magazines and such? I'd love to here your thoughts! Thanks
Guest guest
Hey Leena! I actually flipped through the book six years ago and have picked it up for the second time also. I've only been eating intuitively for five days now, but I am taking it much more seriously than I did the first time around. Really working at it! I had the same experience with fitness and health magazines. I'd carry one with me everywhere to remind me of my goals (which were unattainable). If I felt like binging I would pull the magazine out to inspire me not to binge. Here and there it worked, but mostly it made me feel deprived and anxious. I really thought that if I gained as much knowledge as I could from these magazines then I'd become a healthy and fit person!!! I pass the magazine aisle all together now. It's a bunch of garbage. Good luck on your second time around. DawnR (IE for 5 whole days! Yippie!)
