Guest guest
Kathy, Hi sweetie! It is me, Tara Lynn! I am so excited to see you posting over here. I have not been following the MGB list much lately because it has just gotten too big and I can not keep up! This board is perfect for me. We are currently on month 5 of trying, however months 1 & 2 resulted in early miscarriage. If I am not pregnant by March I will go back on the fertility meds I used for . Anyway, welcome to the board - I am sure the currently and recently preggo post-ops can answer all of your questions. Take care and good luck!!!! - Tara Lynn --- K Goodman wrote: > Hi all, > Was curious to know if any of your doc's had or > have you follow a certain nutrition intake during > pregnancy following weight loss surgery. Guest guest
Kathy, My OB added folic acid and extra iron. And after a lot of persuasion on my part, tested for B-12 and then added B-12 injections once a month. Meichele
Guest guest
Meichele, May I ask why the b-12 injections, were you low on B-12? I do take extra b-12 myself, sublingual liquid from GNC. I had done a series of b-12 injections a bit ago, before WLS, but didn't find that they helped with what I needed them for. This was before I found the sublingual ones, now I just take those. Thanks for the info, Kathy ===== Kathy from Statesville, NC MGB W/Dr. Rutledge 1-6-99 Pre-Op weight 330 Feb 6 2000 184 (141 gone in 1 year!) Guest guest
Tara lynn, Hi there, didn't see you on here! Are you a year post op already? Time flys! Doesn't seem that long ago for me - truely amazed at this! My ob/gyn said give it 6 months, but I told him that prior to WLS we were already looking into fertility treatments with my old Ob/Gny before we moved here, hoping we don't have to go that route as well. Guest guest
I also take the sublingual tablets under the tongue once a week. How often do you take yours, Kathy? Guest guest
Jenna, I try to take mine daily -- think its 1,000 mcg's. Haven't read the bottle lately. I prefer the tablets, but thought the liquid would be a nice change - wrong! like the taste of the tablets better, but either way, its just a little bit! Guest guest
Kathy, I had a B-12 difficiency. Most people that have RNY develope this after a year or two. I was told by one Dr. to start taking the shots right after surgery for the rest of my life because RNY cuases an inability to absorb B-12 when taken orally. I did good for a couple of years but then I started " forgeting " to get my shots. Eventually, it all added up and I really had a low B-12 count. I was told it can cause serious nurological problems, which I was experiencing at one time. So now I try to get it checked once a year and not miss my shots once a month. Guest guest
Jenna, I don't give myself shots yet, but I'm supposed to learn how . To tell the truth, I'm not in a hurry to do that. I've always had a fear of needles. I have gotten better though, at least I don't faint every time I get a shot now. I don't mean to sound dumb but I don't know what sublingual means. I think it wouldn' t hurt to be tested every year anyway just to be safe. Meichele
Guest guest
Do you give yourself shots? What about sublingual B12? My doctor said it's fine. I don't want to wind up with problems.
