We have been fighting with our school system to get what my son needs

from them. Thet have told us basically that they don't care what he

is labeled with, they will give him therapy as they see that he

needs. Right now he is only going for speech therapy for 90 minutes a

week. We had a meeting with tem at the end of last school year tp see

if he could get more therapy. Today, we had someone from the school

where he goes come to the house and do a vineland adaptive behavior

scale test. What does this test prove or disprove and what is the

purpose of giving this test?

Also we have been advised by my son's new psychologist that we either

get a lawyer and/or an advocate. Does anyone know how I can go about

finding an advocate? Our school system does not seem to care about

whether our child or any child that has autism gets the help that

they need. Our county has been in the news lately about how bad the

school system is toward autistic children. My son's psychologist says

that he at leasts needs speech therapy 5 times a day and that the

school system, no matter where it is, is suppose to see that he gets

it. Can anyone advise me on this subject or at least point me into a

direction to get more information? Thank you so much for reading this

and if you have any information that could possibly help me in either

of these situations, please let me know. I am seeking out any

information that I can get a hold of.

Hi,

Speaking from my own experience..it is a difficult path that we all take. However, regardless of the road we travel you will always find help as long as you ask for it! Inmy case right now I am sort of begging for help..and I guess that helps too.

Most of them have a list of advocates and services. You have to do your best to pick and choose. I am not sure where you live. I think it is a battle to the finish line regardless of where you live, but don't give up. We are going through something similar..and I have tried everything. (At least that I know of.) Just keep trying, and DONT let them give him a test you are not sure of. Wait to talk to an advocate first. At least that is my advise.

Remember..a lot of theses places or people may take a while to get back to you..don't give up and keep calling.

I would also try to get more that one docotrs opinion so you have a few different opinions to throw there way!
