I just read your December

interview with Raman on his website as well as your bio on pecanbread.

Reading about your dogs Sunny & Shadow's hunger and weight issues

sound a lot like my dog. She even eats snow as though I never feed her.

Could you give me some specifics (like what type of raw meaty bones are

safe) or direct me to a book or website so I can see if SCD would work

for her too? She's also a toy breed. It's ok to reply off-list if you

want.

has the story of how I came to feed Shadow and Sunny raw. This was posted

in the Books and Lit Forum where I hang out in the middle of that

dreadful pet food recall business last year.

I'll have to look for the rest of the info. Like many SCDers do with the

lists, I've sort of drifted away from the raw feeding lists once Shadow

and Sunny had a good stable diet.

Thanks Marilyn. Did you skin the raw

chicken pieces or try to remove any fat before giving them to your dogs? How

do you know when enough food is enough for them? Or is it like our SCD

that seems to eventually normalize your weight (and appetite?) no matter what?

I wish the best for you in your upcoming

surgery. We’ll all be waiting to hear from you when you’re

able to return to the computer!

Multiply your dogs weight by 16 to get the number of ounces he weighs.

Multiply that by .02, which gives you 2 % of his body weight.

Multiply that by .6 to give you the weight of RMB you should feed.

That is chicken necks, wings, backs etc.

Go back to the 2% of his body weight again and multiply that number by .4

to get the weight in ounces of vegetable slop mix you should

feed.

Vegetable slop is created in our house with either the Maverick Grinder

or the Omega 8002 juicer. It usually has red leaf, green leaf, and

Romaine lettuces, carrots, parlsely or spinach, cucumber, zucchini, green

beans, and odds and ends of other veggies which I've frozen, like the

stems from our cauliflower and broccoli or the tough parts of asparagus

spears. I freeze it in ice cube trays and then put the cubes in bags so I

just reach in and grab a few cubes for each dog the night

before.

Shadow and Sunny get two veggie cubes and one ground red meat cube for

breakfast (they would gladly eat more!) and one and a half chicken wings

each for dinner. Plus whatever they can beg from us. If there's a big

gobbet of fat hanging from a wing, I remove it. Otherwise, we don't worry

about it. They often have a snack of a spoonful of SCD yogurt when I'm

having some.

I haven't yet found an affordable source for organic pastured wings for

them, but I'm working on it.

Like I said, the dogs eat better than too many people.
