Dear friends,

Yesterday was trash day. For all thoses who know me

personally sorry for this repeat story..but I think others may enjoy

it.

As some of you may know I have had a hard time dealing with

my daughters sensory/behavior issues. Usually I can take it..trust me

I am a very stubborn lady. However, yesterday I not only did I reach

my breaking point..I also reached for a trash bag! Yes, trash bag!

It was early am and as usual my lil' girl decided she would

not wear her shirt for the gazillionth time (if that is even a word.)

Anyway, My husband as usual was in the corner thinking he was trying

to help by forcing her to get ready for school. I stooped him and

said forget it, leave her alone! He did, got mad and left the house.

Today I had a different plan of action. I went upstairs with

a trashbag and put all of my daughters clothing into the huge bag.

(yes, everything except socks and underware.) I went downstairs and

left it at the front door. When it was time to leave for school I

again briefly tried to put a shirt on my daughter. Again..no go. So I

said to her..well then I gurss you will start a new naked trend at

school.lets get in the car. I put my daughter in the car , buckled

her in ,(for thoses that don't know, she refused to wear a seatbelt

for several months too.) Then I put the shirt on her lap and got in

the car myself. She stated crying and said " shirt on " I said...yes,

well then put it on, sorry I am not soing that anymore girlfriend!

I didn't look back the whole time I was driving.(only a five

minute trip) When we got to the school she had her shirt on just over

her neck..but it was on.

As soon as we got out of the car she tried to take it off.

As usual I ignored the behavior,I had on hand on her shirt collar (to

take her into the school) and my other hand was holding her backpack

and the trash bag of clothes.

We went to the recrption area I asked to speak to someone

in charge. When the receptionist asked me what was it was regarding I

pointed to my now half naked child and put the trashbag on her desk

and said .. " Does this answer your question? It is not something that

should be discused in front of other children. " (there were a few in

the waiting area)

I met with the principal, and I carried my trash bag in to

her office. She said " How can I help you? " I showed her the huge bag

of clothes and said.. " You can tell me how many more of theses bags of

clothes I have to bring in before I get some sensory help for my

daughter! "

With that, we discussed other issues, including the fact

that I didn't like being told my daughter could not attend school if

she would not wear her clothes etc. etc.

Long story short, I think I finally made my point.(or at

least started too.) It took a trash bag of clothes, but I am finally

getting the ball rolling. If they can't get my daughter the help she

needs in school than I will find it for her somehow, in the mean

time...that was the first time in a long time I actually liked taking

out the trash!

Yes, it may seem crazy, but everyone thinks I am crazy

anyway..and thoses that know me already know..I don't do labels.

Obviously right now my daughter does not either..especially the

fashion the fashion lables! thank God..imagaine buying Prada for a

six year old with autism?

Skys Mom

PS, Please don't get me wrong, I think my daughter's school and

principal are doin gwhat thay concider to be right, I just think they

needed a little wake up call as to the huge impact it has on families

like my not jsut in school hours but all hours of the day. I pray

they will listen to my concerns, and remember my crazy

trashbag " visual cue " and start to listen.
