Hello,Welcome to the group :-) They do still sell DCCC but it is also called farmers cheese and, in my experience, that is the more common name. The Friendship Hoop cheese is legal.Best wishes,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999SCD 2002 New to SCD and Hoop Cheese Question

Hi!

I am just beginning the SCD diet, today is day 2, so a very new

beginner:) I was officially diagnosed with UC last July, but had been

having troubles for a year and a half prior. I am fed up with the

meds and all the side effects and also not knowing when another flare

may occur. I am giving this a try and am praying that it works!

I have enjoyed browsing through all your messages and I think it's

great that there is so much support here. I feel kinda alone starting

this diet with no real support close by as most my family and friends

don't understand or think this diet is worth the effort or if it will

work, etc. It helps to know there are others out there doing it and

reaping the benefits!

Anyway, I have a ton of questions, but the main one I will ask right

now is about the DCCC. I have been searching EVERYWHERE for it and no

store has even heard of it..do they still sell it? I found this one

website that has resources to find it, and for a source it lists

"Friendship Brand Hoop Cheese." My local Gelson's has this but I just

wanted to make sure it is legal? It comes in a block, so I don't know

if it's the right thing. I would appreciate some feedback soon, if

possible, as I am getting sick of chicken soup, carrots and eggs! I

would love to try the cheesecake recipe:)

Thanks so much and here's the link to that website!

Hi Kim!

Thanks for getting back to me with my question! So hoop cheese is legal, and Farmers too? Gelsons is bringing some Farmers cheese in for me, but I wasn't sure that was the dccc replacement. If it is, I believe it is block form, so how does it work in the recipes like for the cheesecake one? Also then, would you recommened the hoop cheese or the Farmers?

Thanks again!

Make sure it is the kind of farmer's cheese that looks like

a block of unmoist cottage cheese and that on the label, under

sugars it says *0*. Otherwise it means that milk solids, i.e.

extra lactose, has been added. And that is not legal.

Farmer's cheese for the cheese cake recipe.

Hi na,

You're very welcome :-)

This is from Elaine's website regarding Friendship Hoop and Farmer's cheeses, http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/dccc.htm

Friendship Hoop Cheese and Friendship Farmers Cheese: Only difference we are interested in is that Farmers has more salt to make it more palatable (this is good - we like salt!) and has more fat (this is good, we don't mind fat) However, they are closing down much of the production of the Hoop and, therefore, we are left mainly with Farmers. The Hoop will still be available in delies in NYC, etc. but may eventually disappear even from these places. That is OK as my conversation with the dairy scientist at Friendship has led me to believe we are just fine with Farmers.

-------

Are they bringing in Friendship farmers cheese or another brand? It should be crumbly. It's cottage cheese without the liquid added back so it should be the consistency of cottage cheese curds. It may be pressed into a rectangle but when you open it, it should be crumbly, not solid like a block of chedddar and it should be dry (no liquid added back) and it should have a carb count of zero.

I use the food processor for making cheesecake. When you process it in the food processor, it comes out smooth. And as far as recommending hoop or farmer's cheese....either one will work fine.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Hi na,

Yes, this is the same as DCCC as others have confirmed for you. I

buy mine from Gelson's and it's labeled " Hoop Cheese " as well and is

from Friendship Dairies. Once you open it up from the paper

wrapping, it will crumble and you'll see that it looks exactly like

cottage cheese that's very dry (ergo, the " dry curd cottage

cheese " ). My Gelson's often runs out but they are very good about

putting some aside for me. Sometimes I have to find the " special

cheese person " to get it, since most of the service deli people have

no idea what " hoop cheese " is.

Welcome to the diet, it works!
