As you no doubt know, every American will have a big decision to make this November 4th, when we will have the chance to pick a new President. There will also be a number of other offices to be filled and amendments to be decided upon, depending on where in Florida you live. Persons with disabilities and their families are often greatly affected by the policy decisions made at all levels of government. The most essential way for families to affect the course of policy is to vote. This election is your chance to make your voice

heard and to help set the agenda for the coming years. To help you make an informed decision, we have collected several links to information about both Presidential candidates' policies regarding persons with disabilities. These two links will provide you with information directly from the two campaigns:Barack Obama's disability issue webpage: http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/DisabilityPlanFactSheet.pdf McCain's overview of the issues webpage: http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/ We would also like to provide you with links to several non-partisan evaluation of both candidates' positions on disability issues. Here is

the Ohio Legal Rights Service's side-by-side comparison of the candidates' positions on disability-related issues: http://www.olrs.ohio.gov/prescompare.htm The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) hosted a National Forum on Disability Issues this July. You can find a comparison of the candidates' positions on disability-related issues based on that event, and other relevant information here: http://www.aapd.com/News/election/peac2008.php For general information on voting in Florida, you can follow this link to Florida Voting Information: http://election.dos.state.fl.us/voting/voting-info.shtml We would also encourage you to contact the Supervisor of Elections in your county for information on early voting, absentee voting, or voting accommodations for persons with disabilities. Many individuals that cannot reach their polling place choose to vote by absentee ballot, and that option remains available at this date. You can find your Supervisor of Elections by selecting your county from this map: http://election.dos.state.fl.us/SOE/supervisor_elections.shtml Finally, if you know a youth with a disability who would

like to get involved in the elections, you can put them in touch with the Florida Youth Council: http://floridayouthcouncil.com/blog/ The Family Cafe is a non-partisan, private 501©3 organization, and does not endorse any candidate for any office. Our role is to provide persons with disabilities and their families with information. The decision making power belongs to you! No matter how or when you vote, please make an effort to make your voice heard this fall. Remember, every vote counts! Yours, The Family Cafe --
