Guest guest
Hi Jodi, My understanding is that narrowing can be caused by either inflammation or scarring. I believe the inflammation can be healed by SCD in which case scarring would be minimal, if at all. Many people have said that when they had repeat colonoscopies, their doctors could find no evidence of disease even though previous tests showed inflammation. But I think scar tissue is here to stay---like a surgical scar. When a build up of scar tissue causes obstruction, surgery might be indicated. Hope I got that right. Phyllis Scar Tissue I was wondering since I have intestinal narrowing (stenosis) - what isthe success of SCD addressing scar tissue issues? Can one's intestineheal without developing scar tissue? What about SCD healing scartissue itself? Has that been reported?JodiSCD 6 monthsCrohn's/Colitis
Guest guest
Hey Jodi, Yes your intestine can heal without forming scar tissue. What most of us are looking at is healing the intestinal mucosa. BUT- if your strictures are caused by adhesions/damage outside of the mucosa and you have already formed scar tissue and this is the reason for your strictures (as may happen in CD) the strictures will not go away. If your narrowed intestinal lumen is due to inflammation (such as mine due to UC) it will resolve with healing. Really the only way for docs to know which is which with CD, is if they open you up and take a peek. Hope this helps UC 1/08 SCD 12/
