Guest guest
I have two weeks of daily medical appointments to get through, not well scheduled I have to admit, so I am going to start SCD the third week of March. That way, I won't risk having to cancel some of my appointments if the initial diet phase bacterial die-off keeps me housebound. In the meantime, I am starting to prepare some of the foods I will need for the introductory phase, replacing " illegal " supplements with legal ones, and shopping for the foods I still haven't located. The supplements I have had to replace are 1. my probiotics (PB8) which contain bifida. I have bought a bottle of plain acidophilus. But I am not sure when I actually have to stop taking PB8, and how long before I start taking acidophilus once I begin SCD. 2. my boron capsules (needed for building my bones) contained rice starch, so I had to find a non-rice version. 3. my R-Alpha-Lipoic acid extended release capsules (part of my protocol for dealing with multiple chemical sensitivities) contained organic sugar, so I had to find a source of AOR not-extended-release R-Alpha-Lipoic acid capsules, which do not contain sugar. I ended up ordering some from an online company in Western Canada, since I didn't have the energy to shop in any stores after last week's futile yogurt shopping excursion. 4. The L-theanine capsules I take at night (recommended by my allergist) contained rice or some form of starch. I ended up buying a much more expensive form of L-theanine to get a version free of starch. 5. Also, I have noticed a few references to using activated charcoal capsules on this list, so I have purchased a bottle, in preparation for starting on SCD. But I am not sure when it is best used, or for what problems. Is this something I should take every day (and if so, when?) or under specific circumstances? Also, in terms of foods for the first few days, I am not very fond of beef patties. Is there any reason I could not use lamb as my alternative meat to chicken? Because of my tendency to develop food allergies, I have to alternate my foods, at least on a 2-day cycle. So if I have chicken and chicken soup on day 1, I need a different type of meat on day 2, then chicken on day 3, and the other meat on day 4... I do find that lamb agrees with me. It is very unusual for people to develop allergies or sensitivities to lamb. I was thinking of slow-cooking lamb with zucchini and carrots, for a stripped down version of my usual lamb stew. I was able to borrow my library's copy of " Eat Well, Live Well " and peruse the scrumptios sounding recipes. I notice that most of them are intended for use after at least 3 months on SCD. Is there a recipe book targeted to the first few weeks and months of SCD? Thanks.
