I have explained and I think it is in FAQ on www.healingcrow.com that just like our blood system, the circulatory system of the growing sprout of whatever grain it is, cannot use the starch within the seed of the grain and the starch is broken down by plant enzymes so that it can enter the circulatory system of the sprout as glucose. So the grass is OK just like it is so good for grazing animals. However, feed the animals a load of the starchey seed (grain) and they get sick. Originally from the Long Island listserve. If you make the juices yourself, and make very certain to remove all (and I do mean ALL) of the seed coats and the lower portion of the sprout (which may still contain starch), these are legal. Commercially processed juices are not. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thank you, Misty and Marilyn, for your responses. After laboring on whether to purchase a masticating juicer for the past 6 months(I have a centrifrigal force jucier)I have just purchased an Omega 2005 juicer (a couple of you should be getting a commission on these :-)) and after reading several books on the topic, it looks like wheatgrass juice accomplishes 'some' of the health benefits as does SCD and other 'healthy' diet regimens. My husband and I want to grow our own heirloom, orgainic wheatgrass, harvest it and have the benefits that come from drinking the juice immediately after harvesting. BTW, I just love this juicer! And, as it stated in one of the books, after purchasing your vegetables immediately wash, dry and store them properly to make it more user friendly when it comes to 'I would like some juice'. Again, thank you. Joanne UC/CC 5/07, SCD 6/07, no meds > >Is wheatgrass (juice)and other sprouts (juices) > >allowed?
