Kedem organic, which is the one on the list - not regular kedem - tastes completely different than the regular one, as it has no extra sweetening. I believe glass jars are available for it at Lucy's kitchen shop and amazon. I'm not sure about the effect of fermentation on the metal lid of the mason jar, if there is reaction or not - maybe someone else will know. But you could cover it with plastic wrap and use your mason jar, if it fits. > The good news is that I am not feeling tempted to eat the foods I > will have > to avoid for years. Guest guest
Thanks Mara. I have not seen Kedem organic grape juice in any stores, but I will try to locate it. When I got up this morning, the water bath temperature in the Yogourmet was over 120 F. I've removed the outer lid in the hopes of bringing the temperature down a bit. I'm not sure what the higher fermentation temperature means in terms of how well the lactose is being consumed by the bacterial strains. Being in Canada, where the machines are made, I would prefer to find a local source for the glass Yogourmet jars. Does anybody know of one? I bought the only Yogourmet machine that was currently in stock at Natural Life Health Food store in Thornhill, north of Toronto, after seeing that store recommended on the Upper Canada Lower Bowel Society website. But I didn't think to ask whether they sold accessories. And I would rather not impose on my husband to drive me back to Thornhill any time soon. I have to limit my driving to short distances and durations, because of cognitive problems and fatigue, and Thornhill generally takes longer to drive to, because of heavy traffic, than I can expect to drive safely.
