H Jane.

The diet hasn't helped my food intolerances yet...been on SCD since 7-07...fruit

has made my yeasts issues infinately worse as has an addiction to almond and

cashew butter (ths is no joke it might as well be heroine) that I am currently

battling...I was just so hungry that once I tried to get the nut stuff in, my

body started craving it all the time and I have more willpower than anyone I

have ever met so it's BAD on this end...have you tried letting up on the fruits

to see if you can kill off more yeast and microbes to try to get your food

intolerances under control? Or instead of cutting out the fruit or nuts (the

mold on the nuts probably is not helping the yeast situation either) have you

tried taking a natural antifungal/bacterial or something to kill the

citrobacter?

What are these sublingual allergy drops you mention??? They are used to treat

food allergies? - please do tell as I am going crazy trying to rotate

foods...thanks.

Hi - I have been on the diet since 1-7-08.

I did the intro for five days and had major DIE-OFF symptoms. Thought

I was going to die-off. The die-off (headaches, stomach pains, weak

legs, trembling, fatigue, general weakness, and worsening

tinnitus)hasn't let up much since the intro.

I added in nut muffins for C about the fourth week of the diet. I

have been abusing this " privilege " because I am constantly hungry.

Now I think I'm reacting to nut flours.

My diet consists of: baked fish, chicken, buffalo, cornish hens, beef,

turkey, most veggies and fruit which are cooked, peeled and pureed. I

also juice fresh fruits and veggies (all diluted and strained). I am

dairy intolerant so I am just taking 1 Kirkman acidophilus/day - no

yogurt.

I am on a 4 day rotation diet and take sublingual allergy drops for

food and inhalant allergies.

Has anyone had any luck getting rid of food intolerances with the diet?

Should I go back to the into diet and take out the nut flour muffins

for now (BUT I'M SO HUNGRY!)?

Thanks in advance for your ideas/advice.

Jane

Food intolerances

Bad bugs: Citrobacter freundii +4 and Citrobacteer farmerii +4

Good bugs: Low levels of all

Allergist suspects Candida overgrowth - but not showing up on tests

SCD since 1-7-08

Sorry I can't help on the other issues. But keep in mind that

hungry is good in the early stages. It means, after the die off,

your body is trying to take in extra nutrition for healing.

-I try not to eat too much fruit, but feel really weak and hungry

without it. I know what you mean about the cravings!

-I'm so sensitve, the antibacterials do't agree with me too well. I am

rotating 1 a day, as suggested by my allergist. He also ordered

another Comprehensive Stool Analysis from a different lab than my

previous Dr. Still trying to figure out exactly what all the problems

are.

-I see Dr. Kroker at Allergy Associates of LaCrosse. (See his

blog - angryallergist.squarespace.com/) He is wonderful. He's quoted

in several of Dr. Crook's yeast books.

=Allergy Associates' website is: http://www.allergy-solutions.com.

-The sublingual drops are used in place of conventional allergy shots.

I use the drops 3x a day to desensitize my system from food,

environmental and airborne allergens. I have only begun the

treatment. There's other clinics in the U.S. that offer sublingual

drops, but Allergy Associates were the " pioneers " in the U.S. Europe

has used this method for a long time. If you call , they

will send you a brochure. I can't tell you if this works yet.

I feel better knowing there is someone else going through this. I

feel my whole life revolves around food (or the lack of it).

Thanks so much for your help.

Kim,

Thanks for the info and comments.

I think it's safe to say that during the first 6 months on SCD you'll be going through the worst of detoxing and die-off, so you can expect all kinds of unusual symptoms and problems. Food sensitivities can also be an issue during this time.

I didn't realize that the detoxing might go on for 6 months. Because I've been ill for 36 years and I have a very compromised detox system with toxic brain and body, it might go on much longer, I suppose.

It will help if you can get some probiotics regularly. Doesn't have to be yogurt, but you could try a legal acidophilus supplement. You want to replace the bad microorganisms being killed off by a community-minded bacteria like acidophilus. Does help a lot.

I've never really tolerated probiotics, but I've been thinking of trying a legal one. I've forgotten which ones are legal. In the past I mostly had to try soy-based. I don't know when I'll be up to anything made of dairy.

Thin stools (bowel movements) are usually a sign of inflammation. I get this periodically, usually after I've had a few days of my upper GI symptoms flaring. Doesn't happen as often now that I've been on SCD for more than 4 years; happened a lot during my first year on SCD when I was going through such heavy-duty detoxing and healing.

Okay about the thin stools. However, it seems to me that they are also based on fiber content, aren't they?

I lost a lot of weight fairly rapidly during the first 2 years on SCD. I had a lot to lose, though. It was nice to lose weight without any struggles! Now I have had to cut back on foods since I gained some of the weight back. It's a good sign that my body is absorbing better, but it means I have to go back to working at losing weight [sigh]. To lose weight you do need to be in a state of mild ketosis. The important thing is to make sure you get a good balance of foods so you stay nourished. SCD is such a healthy way of eating that usually people find their weight levels off, whether they need to gain or lose.

Yes, I'm getting a good balance of foods, I think. Yes, I understand from reading the article that I may be in ketosis because I'm burning fat for energy.

I have blood sugar issues -- can get hypoglycemic easily. So I have to follow some strategies to maintain my blood sugar levels. Not difficult, and I stick to SCD legal foods my body will tolerate. I find a lot depends on how often I eat, and what I eat when.

I have blood sugar issues, too. When I was first diagnosed after getting so ill, I was told I had a malabsorption problem. I need to eat every two hours on the SCD.

And, of course, my body is ultra sensitive to supplements and medications. I have worked out what my body will tolerate and in what dosage, but I had to go through a lot of possibilities. Good thing that I can get a trial size of most supplements, so I have less to throw out when my body reacts violently to something everyone recommends!

Yes, I test everything (in various ways). However, at the moment, I'm not changing my supplements. They have been good for me, but at some point I'll try some more testing. I've reduced them a little. I have severe MCS and I still live in unhealthy housing. I have to be careful how many things I change at once. Changing the way I eat is enough for now.

Keep asking questions. You're making a lifestyle change when you switch over to SCD. Lots of information to absorb during the first few months.

Thanks for your encouragement. Hope this e-mail turns out okay so that you can read it.

Louise, I too am a universal reactor at this time. I feel SCd has

protected my foods.......which is why I still avoid any

illegal....even one illegal defeats Elaine's purpose for

SCD......because then you are no longer truly SCD.

I have had very goodlck with Kirkman's SCd legal S. Boulardii as far

as probiotics go. I avoidd tham for a long time (2 years) on SCD and

coul not tolerate much yogurt. Adding the S. Boulardii helped a lot.

There is a list of SCD legal supplements on pecanbread.com which

might help.

Elaine's reasoning for SCD is that the illegals disturb the gut

imbalance an lead to leaky gut etc.....which from my current

knowledge would contribute to further spreading of the other

sensitivities. So her opinion would be that the lemon juice is

acritical stumbling block into your gut healing.

I am not stating this to be difficult.......more to be sure that I am

explaining what SCD is to be......a strict following and no illegals.

Please know that I DO definately understand the added difficulties

that go on with Chemical sensitivities on top of the rest since I am

experiencing it too.

Hope you continue to heal. Michele
