Don't just yank one perfectly healthy food because it's sweet-tasting. Look at the carb counts of different foods, and figure out what / how much you can have to meet what your health care practitioner recommends as a carb level. Then figure something out which will give you a balance. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
hey marilyn, from how i understand it banana is loaded with sweetness and is one of the worst culprits in my diet.. according to kim's candida elimination diet; FRUITS RANKED BY SWEETNESS LEVELS Non-sweet fruits Best for phase 1 elimination diet. apples, avocados, blackberries, blueberries, kiwi, lemon juice, lime juice, papaya, pears, raspberries, strawberries, white grapefruit. Sweet fruits Limit or avoid until phase 3 elimination diet. apricots, bananas, cherries, coconut, dried fruits, grapes, mangoes, melons, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pineapple, pink grapefruit, plums, watermelon. this is very similar to what i was told yesterday. so banana should be eliminated on a low carb version of scd for candida purposes. what do you think from the non-sweet fruit could replace a banana? usually fresh papayas are so unripe it's ridiculous. maybe frozen papaya? is there such a thing? jodi > Jody, > > How many bananas are you eating a day, for ghu's sake? > > Don't just yank one perfectly healthy food because it's sweet-tasting. > > Look at the carb counts of different foods, and > figure out what / how much you can have to meet > what your health care practitioner recommends as a carb level. > > Then figure something out which will give you a balance. Guest guest
What about avocado? That would give it a nice creamy texture, and a mildly sweet flavor that could also go with berries. Avocado would get the consistency right - but I wouldn't want to drink it. <vbg> Mara
Guest guest
I drink avocado, pecan butter, yogurt and banana twice a day - with a smidge of water - so thick and awesome - i'd imagine pear might replace banana well??? avocado takes on flavor of banana right now so I guess it would do the same with whatever fruit you add?? eileen > > > hey marilyn, > > > > from how i understand it banana is loaded with sweetness and is one of > > the worst culprits in my diet.. according to kim's candida > > elimination diet; > > > > FRUITS RANKED BY SWEETNESS LEVELS > > > > Non-sweet fruits Best for phase 1 elimination diet. > > > > apples, avocados, blackberries, blueberries, kiwi, lemon juice, lime > > juice, papaya, pears, raspberries, strawberries, white grapefruit. > > > > Sweet fruits Limit or avoid until phase 3 elimination diet. > > > > apricots, bananas, cherries, coconut, dried fruits, grapes, mangoes, > > melons, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pineapple, pink grapefruit, > > plums, watermelon. > > > > > > this is very similar to what i was told yesterday. so banana should > > be eliminated on a low carb version of scd for candida purposes. > > > > what do you think from the non-sweet fruit could replace a banana? > > usually fresh papayas are so unripe it's ridiculous. maybe frozen > > papaya? is there such a thing? > > Avocado would get the consistency right - but I wouldn't want to drink > it. <vbg> > > Mara >
Guest guest
avacado seems nice and i would try it but i am scared the fat content will set my RUQ pain off.. i am unsure what is going on in my pancreas but i will know more after HIDA scan. gallbladder issues has been ruled out (from what i understand issues with fats they usually look at gallbladder first.. but sometimes they cannot see gallbladder sludge only stones) but consuming fats can make me feel so congested and i can't seem to find a comfortable position to be in. jodi > > I drink avocado, pecan butter, yogurt and banana twice a day - with a > smidge of water - so thick and awesome - i'd imagine pear might > replace banana well??? avocado takes on flavor of banana right now so > I guess it would do the same with whatever fruit you add?? > eileen
Guest guest
Hi Jodi You might just have half of a banana in your smoothie every 2 or 3 days instead of daily. That should help with your candida/yeast, and also keep your upper GI from reacting as badly. Or perhaps another fruit instead of a banana. If you're in the more drastic yeast elimination phase you shouldn't have the fruit every day, but you could be fine with some fruit every few days. Maybe just add vanilla flavoring to your yogurt smoothie for a day or two between fruit smoothies. It was a yogurt smoothie you were talking about, right? I missed the beginning of this thread. If you do have pancreas trouble, then you might not be able to tolerate bananas -- or yogurt for that matter. I have had to stop eating bananas completely, by the way. Actually I don't eat much fruit; only one serving per day, either a cooked low-sugar fruit or very diluted juice. Even when I got my yeast levels back under control I found my upper GI wouldn't tolerate banana or much fruit -- and fruits disturb my blood sugar levels too. Pancreas issues also accompany Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction... I only eat about half of the SCD legals. And some of the legals I do eat I only have once in a while, perhaps once a month, because it throws off my metabolism and upper GI function for a few days. I try not to do that too often [grin]. Guest guest
hey kim, i will try that although it seems i have very little self control and something just possesses me to just eat all of it or stuff my face with one every day. i wish i had more sanity and calm when it comes to this. jodi > > Hi Jodi > > You might just have half of a banana in your smoothie every 2 or 3 days instead of daily.
