Guest guest
Yes, from what I came across in my research, you'll have symptoms from an overgrowth of "good" bacteria the same as you do with the "bad" microorganisms. As I recall the articles mentioned a wide range of symptoms similar to having a yeast overgrowth. I think stool tests showed, in some patients, abnormally high levels of L. Acidophilus and the bifidus strains. But I would think it would take years to develop an overgrowth of beneficial bacteria, or perhaps some people are more sensitive to it. I've also seen emails from people who had tests show abnormally low to no beneficial bacteria in their stools even after they'd been on an Acidophilus or another probiotic supplement for a long period of time. Not sure of the whys of that. I haven't experienced an overgrowth of acidophilus myself, but I found that by the beginning of my 2nd year on SCD, after my yeast overgrowth was under control, my immune system started reacting when I had my acidophilus capsule every day (I stopped eating yogurt by then because of severe joint pain). So I cut back to what is my maintenance dose of one acidophilus capsule 2 times a week, unless I'm on antibiotics. I've learned to pay attention to my immune system, believe me! Kim M. SCD 4+ years >>>>>>>>>>>>> thanks - i have about 1/4 cup total yogurt now - as i increase that i guess i'll decrease the other but yet i am still definately not well -so i am "healing" still as you saidthankswould i get symptoms if i over did the good bacteria??
