Pepper is allowed if you tolerate it. I would recommend using a shaker-grind initially. Then you can graduate to coarser grinds if you like and tolerate them. I often find white pepper easier on me if I'm under the weather than black pepper is. We don't use spice mixtures because they often have fillers made of starch or sugar in them.
