Guest guest
Gretchen, Lamar here, I noticed that the link you gave is for certified PEDORTHISTS and not Othitists. They may or may not be an orthotist for braces or AFO's, but are the ones trained in custom modified shoes and in the inserts you describe. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gretchen Glick egroups Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2001 01:30 PM Subject: [] walking and shoes Dennis, yes I have CMT, but no, I have 'plastic things' to help me walk. I walk pretty well on my own, I am a toe walker, I do not have drop foot and AFOs would do me more harm that good. Instead, I were in-shoe custom molded rubber/poly arch/foot supports. They keep my foot in a heel-toe gait, NOT my natural toe/heel gait. Worn in straight last cross trainers, such as New Balance, or , those shoes are made also to provide support for atheletes, of which I am not! I just like the shoes! CMT manifests itself differently in all of us. I have basically only foot problems. May I suggest you check out some of our CMT links at to learn more about our disease/syndrome. The sections on AFOs and Orthotics I believe will show you pictures and explain more. Here in the US we also have a site for finding a qualified orthotist http://www.cpeds.org Dennis, how does CMT affect you? Please share with us. We always can learn more from each other ~ Gretchen eGroups Sponsor
