Class Descriptions:

NEW: TEACHING SIGN LANGUAGE TO INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM: A MOTOR

PLANNING APPROACH

Often children with autism have difficulty learning sign language

utilizing traditional approaches. This is due to the fact that they have

motor planning issues. Motor planning is the ability to start, perform

and

complete a series of movements. This class describes an approach called

Pre-Sign and Sequenced Sign that teaches sign language by improving the

individual's motor planning skills.

NEW: COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES FOR LOW OR NONVERBAL INDIVIDUALS

This class will focus on strategies to enhance communication skills for

individuals who are either non-verbal or low-verbal. Different

techniques

for incorporating Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) will

be

discussed.

INTRO TO COMPUTER-BASED INTERVENTION (CBI)

You will open up a whole new world for your child. Computer-Based

Intervention is a

great way for children with autism to learn new skills. Research has

shown

that individuals on the spectrum are often more successful learning

though

this channel. Technology is so important for our kids. Take this free

class

and learn how you can use technology to increase your child's

abilities. This class is sponsored by the

Unicorn Children’s Foundation.
