Guest guest
Hi everyone, This is a big year for us as will be entering kindergarten next year. A year ago I wasn't sure how much of a reality that was but we are feeling good about it. Although he turns 5 in June and our cutoff is October we are striving for a mainstream kindergarten class with built in supports. If he still seems to need special-ed kindergarten we have that as an option too. My question is this. Do children received a formal classification in kindergarten? In pre-school, everyone is pre-school disabled, handicapped, challenged whatever with no specific " label " . Is the classification something to be concerned about? Is communication impaired better than learning disabled or vice versa. ANother question, is it required to have IQ or psychoeducational testing done? How does that impact on placement, etc..? Your thoughts and experiences on this would be most appeciative? Thanks. in NJ Mom to 4.5 with verbal and oral apraxia, generalized low tone and signs of global dyspraxia resolving steadily and 2.9 and a typical girl who knows everything!
