I do allow my daughter to be "restrained" at school and ARC. All members of the autistic program are PCM trained. I took the course and got certified because I wanted to make sure I was doing it "right" at home. There are times when my daughter needs to be restarined to keep from self injury or from hurting others. Part of PCM is transporting while in precrisis because sometimes moving the child gets them out of crisis, They are made prone on a mat only if transport breaks down and there needs to be at least 2 people and a 2 inch mat. I asked to see every thing before I agreed to it.

I know that when I originally asked a few weeks ago about these kindof injustices towards our children it was hard for many to respond asit brought back old memories. It was easy for the child that is nolonger here to respond - he ended his life. This is not something I'want to' post about or wanted to even look at. After receivingseveral hundred responses from parents about this going on at theirschools ( I have them and they keep pouring in ), I then addedMandatory Jail Sentences for those that put our children into thiskind of Jeopardy into the Autism Reform Act of 2009. Liz,Sensory Break rooms are across the country and thriving. One reason is because they have been equipped, are staffed right, and are not used after a child has completely melted down. I know you are aware of what a FBA is and a BIP.. if you aren't please excuse me. But they do not state to use the most force necessary right away - they are first an alalysis and then a plan to handle behaviors - I don't know about many of you but I do know about my situation with my son.. sure.. I could really irritate him into throwing a fit.. but then what happens ? The BIP is almost like your common sense rules at home.. you don't go messing with a kid thats already upset - you deal with the problem and work through it. Either way this Nation looks at it.. time out rooms are
